Trick or treaters letting themselves in

First off, I've had a hard day so I might be slightly narky.

My DS has been ill all day - loaded with the cold and a temp of 39. I've just picked him up from my mum's (been at work all day) and trying to get him into a cool bath and get some calpol down down him. He's just miserable and my DH is working away.

I put him in the bath and I hear the door. I know it'll be trick or treaters but I can't leave my son in the bath (he's 2) so I decide to just ignore it and see if they come back later.

Oh no. The door opens and in walks the boy from next door whom I do know accompanied by 4 or 5 other children! Their mums are standing at the bottom of my garden shrieking with laughter and encouragement.

These children were standing in my hall way shouting and laughing confused

I got my DS out the bath, ran down the stairs and I asked them to leave and closed the door.

I actually got a bit of a shock that they'd be so bold!

I never even gave them sweets sad

WIBU to ask them to leave?

Dare I say- lock your door?

scrivette Mon 31-Oct-16 18:42:39

Not at all! I would be fuming !

ThatStewie Mon 31-Oct-16 18:43:35

No. that's ridiculous behaviour. Even if it's your sisters kids coming in.

Scrumptiousbears Mon 31-Oct-16 18:43:58

I'd be pissed off as well OP. However I would have locked the door as that could have been anyone. shock

Shakey15000 Mon 31-Oct-16 18:44:22

Bloody hell I'd be livid.

LetMeHaveABloodyName Mon 31-Oct-16 18:46:02

shock that's terrible. I had trick or treaters knock earlier while DS was in the bath so had to ignore. Now I'm sat downstairs I hope they come back!
But to come in your door, wow, YANBU!

IreallyKNOWiamright Mon 31-Oct-16 18:46:08

I think you were right to ask them to leave. Their mums should have had some manners!!!

FrancisCrawford Mon 31-Oct-16 18:46:52

That's appalling.
Those mothers are insane - suppose you'd been looking after a friends dog which rushed towards the intruders... doesn't bear thinking about.

PigletWasPoohsFriend Mon 31-Oct-16 18:48:19

Dare I say- lock your door?

Locked door or not it is not acceptable. You don't just walk into other people's houses!

I would be fuming.

emmyhNL Mon 31-Oct-16 18:48:29

Utterly bonkers!! Definitely lock your door!

NickNacks Mon 31-Oct-16 18:51:04

I didn't say they behaved acceptably , but it's not particularly safe to leave your door unlocked and be upstairs with your child.

Lorelei76 Mon 31-Oct-16 19:00:42

IT is rude but i can't believe anyone leaves doors unlocked normally but esp on Halloween.

Backaffyaspookybitch Mon 31-Oct-16 19:02:55

I think my mind has been elsewhere with a sick child to look after.

gillybeanz Mon 31-Oct-16 19:04:59

The mothers were ridiculous teaching their children to walk into peoples houses.
I would take this as a wake up call and no way should you leave your door unlocked, at any time of the year. That could have been anyone.

HummusForBreakfast Mon 31-Oct-16 19:08:21

I'm shock that the mother's thought it was an OK thing to do TBH..

And no I would t feel guilty not to have given them sweets. Why should they when they behave like this?

user1474627704 Mon 31-Oct-16 19:09:02

It's not really acceptable, but they are excited children and its Halloween. They didn't shit on your doormat, did they? It's not really an issue.

rainyinnovember Mon 31-Oct-16 19:10:37

No it is an issue. Awful behaviour!

HermioneJeanGranger Mon 31-Oct-16 19:11:01

It's not acceptable but I wouldn't leave the door unlocked either, especially not on Halloween.

GabsAlot Mon 31-Oct-16 19:11:13

of course its not ok to do that but do lock your door it could have been a burglar or worse

weresquirrel Mon 31-Oct-16 19:11:16

Why did you leave your door open?

GoBigOrange Mon 31-Oct-16 19:12:06

How bloody mannerless. Anyone - even young kids trick or treating - just deciding to open the door and wander into my home uninvited would get an extremely short shrift. Certainly no sweets for them!

Hope your coldy son feels better soon flowers

MissMogwi Mon 31-Oct-16 19:13:00

Whether the door was locked or not, who would let their kids wander into someone's house? Rude parents - I'd be mortified if any of mine did that, as would most people.

wooooofudge Mon 31-Oct-16 19:14:48

Charming user. They weren't a burglar either. Still doesn't make it okay.

bigbluebus Mon 31-Oct-16 19:15:35

Would always lock the door especially if I was going to be upstairs for any length of time. Anybody could have walked in - you were lucky it was only the boy next door and some of his mates.
