Secondary rash following chicken pox (pics)?

Just need a second opinion, ds2 has come out in a horrid rash following chicken pox. Spreading quickly over most of body now and hot to touch. His temp is ok and he seems ok in himself. Friend suggested it was hives (and certainly looks similar) but panicking slightly as it is almost covering most his body now.... Pics show across back and arm from earlier, now it is all across tummy, back and arms. Is this what hives looks like to others?

Ring 111. There are lots of things it could be and some of them need attention.

I really don't know what it could be, but I do know that chicken pox can have serious complications so I would seek medical advice. I'm sure there's every chance it's not something serious, but in your shoes I would get it checked out.

It does look like hives which can occur after or during an illness.
But I would definitely get him checked over to be safe.

Defo looks like hives/urticaria. Do you have any Pirton? It really helps with hives. Don't panic, a rash on a well child is rarely anything to worry about, but speak to out of hours if you're concerned.

Yes it appears to spread, lessen in some areas and get stronger in others. He has no temp but says the rash hurts/ itches

My youngest got a post viral rash after having chicken pox the first time. Only lasted a couple of days. He then went on to have a second bout of the pox four weeks later.

I did call the doctor when the rash appeared but they weren't worried - they diagnosed him over the phone without seeing him.

My daughter came out in a hive rash daily for about a week after chicken pox. I gave her antihistamine syrup which seemed to help. Was on the verge of taking her to GP becasue it kept reappearing then it stopped

We were just prescribed Piriton so we’ll see how that goes.
