Hi,
Please let me know what you think. I'm going to a christmas party for my husbands work do at a country house hotel where everyone gets dressed up. I'm 40, good figure, good hair, not so good face. AIBU to wear this tight pink Karen Millen body con dress? Or is it too young for me? My husband thinks so......I'm prepared for harsh remarks - I'd rather get them online than on the night!!! Thanks!!! ( I do have a black bolero to cover up with to start off the night).

I think regardless of age/figure/event etc... it's an awful dress Blush sorry, it just doesn't look very flattering at all and the black fringe stuff is a bit Confused but hey, you'll be the one wearing it and if you like it and will be comfortable in it then surely that's all that matters Smile

Not too young at all. I'd happily wear that and I'm only a few yeas younger.

It's fine. It doesn't look that tight, just fitted.

I think it's a bit young. Sorry.

If you feel confident enough to wear it, then wear it. The key to looking good is confidence (something I lack in abundance).
I love the dress, if I had the confidence to wear it I would. And I think with a bolero as well to walk in and so on, will make for a very classy, elegant look Smile

If you feel comfortable and happy in it, then it's the right dress. Your age is irrelevant.

OK well as you asked for honesty here goes.

  • The dress itself is horrid. Colour is vile, lace trim is dated and it looks very out of style.
  • Size 14 is too large for the bodycon style (I'm a size 14 myself!! No judgement about size)
  • It's horrifically overpriced for what it is....

buy a new, nicer dress. Please.

I haven't looked at the dress but please feel free to wear whatever the fuck you like.

That's the beauty of getting older. No shits need to be given.

I'd wear it and I'm 46.

40 is not too old for a body con dress! Wear what makes you feel fab.

But I agree that this particular dress is not a nice dress, sorry.

Why on earth would you think that's too young? What on earth is your DH doing telling you that?!

If it fits you, if you can afford it, if you like it then wear it. No need for ageism at all

I'm not familiar with that designer, but the dress looks like something a high school student made in home ec class. Just, no.

You're not too old to wear it but I don't like it.

Your husband sounds unreasonable though.

Karen Millen dresses are usually flattering and I like the colour

I'm all for buying second hand party dresses when they typically have so little wear

Personally I think it's a stunning dress. And if you like it you should wear it. Have a lovely time

It's not my style (I'm not a dressy person) but it's fine. Of course you can wear it at 40 and a size 14 is not too large for a bodycon style
Wear what makes you feel good, regardless of age Smile

You said you have a good figure so the dress will look fine...to be honest a 60 year old could wear that. I am sure Joan Collins has worn that style and God knows how old she is.
I agree with pp though, the colour is awful and would make most people look washed out.

I think it's quite expensive for eBay. Even if it's bnwt.
The dress is quite a Spring colour so may wash you out depending on colouring.
It's not too young for a 40 year old. Wear whatever makes you feel good.
