For example if your only going for the day and it's 7/8 hours away I can see why someone might set off then. I personally wouldn't but each to there own!

I thought that when I was staff on a school trip leaving at midnight last year. All turned out fine.

It's not me. Hell no. Dd is off with guides to Paris for 4 days. On a coach. They are leaving at 1.45 in the morning. I have gone to bed and set my alarm for 1am. She is now in my room asking where an adapter might be.

Is this anything like the small mob of teenagers (16-18 year olds) I ended up looking after last weekend suddenly deciding to go camping? In October? About ten minutes after I'd gone to bed thinking they were all safely settled?

The last stray one turned up around lunchtime the next day. I was so near ringing her mum, only the fact that one of the more reliable ones had sworn on her mother's grave that she was fine had stopped me.

That makes sense. Kids will fall asleep on the coach, roads are quieter and they don't need an extra night accommodation.

Used to do this a lot for school trips, drive through the night and catch an early morning ferry.

We set off at a similar time when I did the Paris school trip. Roads were quiet and lots of people slept until 10am when we were already almost there. It was brilliant!

We also set off on an excursion in Greece at 2am. That was not so great. I swear we spent until 9am picking people up from around Greece and then finally set off to the excursion.

I often end up leaving for trips at 2am. Very little traffic to deal with, music on loud. Just got to watch out for the roos in some seasons.

We had to drop off our son at school this time last year at 2.30am when he was going on a school trip to New York and Washington. Worst thing was it was a Friday and we all had to be at work the next morning and the coach which was due to take them to the airport didn't show up! We had to wait an hour for another coach but then couldn't go to bed as we were worried they wouldn't catch their flight and had to wait for a text! Nightmare .

We used to do this on a school trip to Alton towers every year for activities week.

We left on the coach in the early hours of the morning to get there for it opening and got dropped off about midnight after leaving once it closed for the day.

Take an extension thingy with lots of sockets if you have one spare, then one adapter can have that plugged into it, and lots of people can charge phones at the same time.

Travel by coach, kids sleep (in theory! some do!) and then we get there in time to do something that day.

Better than leaving at 7am and getting there in time for bed.
