AIBU?

To wish I lived alone? <lighthearted>

Does anyone else fantasise about living alone?

Having to only shop/cook for themselves, be as tidy or untidy as they want, be able to put something down and it still be there when they go back for it, only one person's washing, no cleaning up after anyone else, especially the bathroom.

I've told DH that in an ideal world we would have a house each and he got offended.

Not at all - I considered our marriage at its best when he worked away during the week.

YANBU. DH is going away with work a lot in November. I can't wait.

It is lovely and one reason I don't want a new partner!

I've also told DH that if we split up, I wouldn't ever live with anyone (aside from DS) ever again.

Can't think why he took offence Grin

One of few my regrets is never having lived alone. The closest I ever got was student halls where I had my own lockable room and en suite, but I still had to share a kitchen.

I don't especially want to live alone now, but it is something I wish I'd had the chance to do.

Fuck yeah!

Actually I think the answer is: if you know it's temporary, it's bloody brilliant. And for some people, it's permanently brilliant. I loved it, but there were times when I was worried it would be forever and I would never find anyone and be found in my immaculate pink vodka and pink champagne and take away menu-infested flat and one day having died of ingesting too much pink vodka and pink champagne and takeaways!

I also fantasize about it, but know I'd be horribly lonely in reality!

Last year I had two extra relatives living with me as well as my family, so five to cook for and clear up after, I constantly fantasised about either escaping to my own personal island or buying a house that was so small only I could live there. I used to plan it out, room by tiny room.
It kept me going. Never again!

No cooking meals for 4, if you don't fancy. Just pyjamas and a bowl of cereal.

Me too rolling, although in a way it's probably a good thing as I think it would have been really difficult to adjust to cohabiting afterwards!

Could never have afforded it when I was younger either.

YANBU

I have a fantasy loft apartment in my head (like Melissa's in 30 something). No DH and no DC. I want to have a bath whenever I like and get dressed in peace. Ultimate luxury is getting up when I wake and being able to enjoy my first cup of tea quietly by myself - hardly ever happens.

One of my lottery win purchases would be an apartment with me being the only one with a key for it and I'd live there one day and night per week. Alone.

I may have already put a lot of thought into this. 🤔

DP took DD on holiday for a few days earlier in the summer; I had to wait 2 days before I could join them due to work.

I have never fantasised about anything in my life, no, not even naked Bradley Cooper smothered in calorie free Haagen-Dazs and fat reducing white chocolate chunks, so hard as I fantasised about sleeping for 12 hours straight in my beautiful enormous bed.

And on the Saturday night... the neighbours' teenage son decided to throw a massive party. The little Ruperts and Tarquins were rah-rahing and the little Tabithas and Sukeys were yah-yahing underneath my beautiful enormous bed until 2am. Fucking fucking fucking hell!

Oh yes. So much. For 3 years before we got married I lived alone in my own house which I bought all by myself and decorated top to bottom all by myself. I am nostalgic for it all the time. So much so that I wonder if I made a mistake getting married, even though I have a lovely husband and nice life. The cleaning took me an hour on Sunday mornings. I had one single bit of shelf with food on it, I hardly cooked. A lovely big bed all to myself. A table for parties with lovely friends. Work a 10 minute walk away.

Ohhhh. Now I won't stop thinking about it all afternoon.

I read somewhere that Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton live in flats next door to each other. I don't know if it's true or I'm remembering right. But I GET IT!

If I can't have my own tiny house I'll settle for a shed, but that's probably a whole other thread.

I've never lived alone and I often think wistfully about what it would be like.

I live on my own and all the advantages you talk about are things I enjoy every day, but it does get boring.

I love living alone, for all of Basin's reasons. Plus, the peace and quiet.

I also enjoy being in a relationship, but I love that he has his own house to bugger off to. Grin

Tootsietoo I think that's right, but I think it's houses not flats they live in.

I totally get it.

I have an aunt that never got married and I totally envy the way she gets to do things just as she pleases. All the slightly stupid, non-sensical things I do around the house are just fine if there's no one to answer to.

Mind you I am getting divorced so will be living alone, but with kids. Looking forward to it in that respect.
