Couriers .. the worst and best

With so much on-line shopping these days, we are now becoming beholden to the couriers to deliver our goodies after ordering. Some are better than others, so who are the best and worst..? and do you choose to not order from a website if they use a rally bad courier?

For a start I nominate FedEX as one of the worst for their performance yesterday. I had a delivery scheduled and waited in all day.. needless to say it never turned up. so a day wasted unable even to tidy the garden or vacuum the house in case I missed the doorbell.. I contacted them today to ask what is happening and got the runabout. Evasive and trying to not answer a simple question, "where is my parcel?". I was told to speak to the shipper. After speaking with the them and having to wait for a reply it turns out the delivery operator failed to deliver it and it was returned to the depot then .... they lost it!

OTOH there is an outfit who send you a text with about two hours warning to say they will deliver within a two hour slot giving you time to get home and listen for the doorbell.. Problem is, I don't remember who they are Confused.

I love DPD. They give you a one hour slot delivery time, you can track where the courier is and can even change your delivery preferences as it's on it's way to you.

DPD- the hour slot is a bit random - as in 10.32-11.32, but they are on time ime.

Yodel aren't generally good, but our local lady is lovely.

DPD are great, they always do what they say they'll do.

Lately one of our Amazon Logistics couriers (don't know which company they're using) has taken to consistently delivering our parcels about five doors down the road, or not delivering them at all and claiming they've been delivered. It's very annoying. The only positive is that I keep getting a month of extra Prime membership each time they do it!

Worst - Yodel, they threw a very well labelled fragile package over the garden gate into a public accessible communal garden and damaged the box ... LUCKILY the item itself was ok.
Best - second the local post!!

Dpd are great with being able to track them in real time. Their routes are bizarre though. They could be in the next street at delivery number 10 but your not for another 3 hours!

My my hermes courier is fabulous. Aways arrives between 9.30 and 10am. The company itself can be a bit hit or miss.

Yodel arse a bunch of slackers IMO.
Several times they've marked a delivery was attempted but no answer when in fact we've been in all day waiting and they'd not bothered even coming.
The last time they claimed I'd refused a delivery due to damage when they'd not actually been to my door at all.

Worst - YODEL; my company cancelled our multi-million pound contract with them as they are that bad.

DHL - Stands for dropped, hidden and lost. (Company ethos they seem to always live up to).

Never really had a problem with DPD/Fed-Ex or Hermes

DPD - best for time slots and tracking

My hermes - shit. Just very very shit. So many companies use them now as they're cheap.

Dpd are dreadful, you cant ring them up if there is problem. I had a delivery the other week and then a text that they had tried to deliver. Except nobody had been to the house. I then got a photo of a door which wasnt mine, turned out it was a neighbour who was out.
I then spent an hour trying to find a human being to talk to. Ended up ringing the sender who finally got through to them to redeliver( i had paid extra for saturday delivery.
He turned up with no apology or anything.

Yodel are terrible. I won't even go into the stories that I have about them because they are too long winded and ridiculous! But they have virtually fucked up Christmas on a couple of occasions in chez smegg.

Arrow xl are always pretty good guys. Obviously only larger deliveries with them but I always find them really helpful and generally happy to be there.

Dpd are good. They delivered a phone to me and text me all the way through to let me know what was going on. Really reliable.

I can vouch that FedEX are just as bad when it comes to being able to not being able to contact them. Took ages to get a phone number.. No reply yesterday Then a web chat. Then excuses about contacting the sender. That is just a waste of time and buck passing. all they are doing is to cause delays and problems instead of dealing with the issue.

I fully expect that things will go wrong every now and then.. It is the way that problems are resolved that marks the cowboys from the good ones.

DPD have been lovely here.

A lot of them depend on the person, not the company, as some have self employed couriers. MyHermes used to have a lovely lady who was always nice, said hello as she raced round her unrealistic targets and was generally understanding. The current MyHermes driver, well, if I swore then I would say he was a fuck ton of thundercunt but as it is I will just say he is not a very nice man who insists on ranting about things that are nothing to do with me for at least five minutes before he'll hand over the parcel.

Amazon have been okay locally. The old postie was a treasure who was amazingly understanding but the current one, well, it's hard to say something that isn't offensive about someone who will ignore an open door to put a 'sorry you were out' card through a different door and I had to sprint out to get the parcel before he could get away.

eBay is my friend. I know all the couriers that are local.

I agree its the way companies sort problems out that sets them apart. There was nobody to talk to at all with dpd, just automatic answering machines that told me i was out and they would try and deliver again on monday (when i would be at work)
I get loads of stuff from yodel, 2 or 3 times a week never a problem

We love DPD, Yodel are diabolical here to the point we now try to check if Yodel will be delivering and if so don't order with that company.

The worst is Yodel, they have 'lost' a mobile phone and a Nintendo Wii U, all within the same year! Luckily they were replaced by the companies I ordered from.

Best is DHL, never had an issue with them and I get a pretty accurate delivery time.

WindInThePussyWillows · 21/10/2016 10:46

Yodel are appalling. They delivered a TV to me and dropped it on my driveway, in front of me and my dad and then denied it when we opened it (in front of the driver) and it was smashed - he said it came like that Grin

Hermes are also shit and leave my parcels on my front step in full view of everyone and never knock.

DPD are great! I love the time slot, names driver and option to specify safe place, neighbour or to change time/date at the click of a button.

I love DPD! Have a lovely regular driver.

Carmenta just to warn you, you can only get 12 prime extensions per paid year. After that they just apologise.

Hermes are shite. No way of contacting them at all on the card they posted. The delivery ended up getting sent back to the supplier and I didn't bother ordering again from them. It was Dorothy Perkins. Fine if you're in all day but if anything comes up it all goes to pot.

My dad is a courier and has worked for most of the big companies, he really did go above and beyond to make sure everything on his run was delivered safely and on time..
So even though the companies have a (deservedly) bad reputation, there are some diamonds amongst the shit! Grin

I like DPD for the fact you can track the whereabouts of the van before your delivery and even get the name of the driver.
I sound like a stalker Grin

Hermes are the worst imo. Had so many poor experiences with them but the latest was no attempt at delivery at all, so no note or anything. When I checked on their website it had been returned to sender. No explanation at all. Fuming.

DPD the best. Yodel the worst. Booked a collection from their delivery hub 20 miles away and they'd lost the parcel.

Report
BecauseIamabear · 21/10/2016 12:59

I have just had a phone call from the sender to say the FedEX "found" my parcel and it will be delivered sometime within the next hour...

I am not holding my breath.
