AIBU?

AIBU to think that it is unacceptable for the village church bells to now be chiming TWENTY NINE minutes early every hour?!

I would rather they just turned them off altogether. I'm an insomniac which doesn't help, but when you hear the bells chime 2am and you check your phone/clock/watch and it's actually 1.31am, I just think it's a bit much. I'm scared of heights so not sure how much practical help I could be to rectify this as I'm scared of heights.

Why on earth are they chiming early? Is it every hour?

Sorry, it is in the title! Blush why do they need to chime during the night? Confused

I don't mind our local church bells chiming the hour; but itnwould drive me insane if they weren't on time!

They chime every hour 24 hours a day and I live next to the church. They used to get set to the hour, then gradually get later and later as they lost time until they got to about 20 minutes late. Then I assume someone would re-set them as they'd go to about 5 minutes early then gradually lose time again. For the last couple of months they've been nearly half an hour early every hour Confused

I live next to 1 church and very close to another 2 and they chime every hour 24 hours a day. I like it, however, it would drive me insane if they weren't on time.

Only thing I can think of is popping round to the Church when there is someone there.

Most churches have an email address these days. Send them a message politely asking them to correct this. If that doesn't work tell them you'll contact environmental health as it's noise pollution!

Our local one has different chimes for on the hour, half hour and quarter hours too 24/7!

They're now 31 minutes early. No luck yet in getting an explanation why it's happened, but apparently it takes two people to go up there and change them (one of these has to be the only person in the village who knows how) and no one is keen to do it (I'm terrible with heights so don't look at me). They want to electrify them but it will involve scaffolding and £3000. I'm broke but would happily work my arse off to fundraiser for it as it's driving me mad Halloween Confused

I guess if you wait long enough they will be so early they will be late for the last hour and therefore on time.

Why don't you just adjust your clocks to line up with the church bells?

you're welcome

If I didn't have to go to work or anything that'd work just fine, but sadly I do.
