to think this isn't gross?

It's been playing on my mind all day and made me feel really shit about myself.
At a playgroup with dc. Some mums start chatting about hair washing, I said I wash mine once a week, about every 7 days or so.
One of the mums pulled a terrible face and literally recoiled in horror and said I am gross Sad she tried to laugh it off buy tbh it felt more like laughing at me.

I'm very clean, I wash at least once a day but if I wash my hair more often it goes very frizzy. It's not greasy at all either.

Is it really bad to go that long?

I can't imagine going that long but if it works for you; it's your decision... I wash mine every two days to keep it clean and soft and manageable, but mine is waist length and seems to get in everything!

No not at all, assuming you wash your body more regularly and your hair doesn't smell. Either way she was incredibly rude. Even if someone smelt I think I'd struggle calling them "gross" to their face if I barely knew them.

Actually that's good

You should only wash your hair once to twice a week anyway. Too much strips the oils and damages your hair

Though I suppose people who do have naturally oily hair need to wash more often

Everyone's hair is different and needs different treatment. If I didn't wash my hair for a week it would line an oil slick, but others is perfectly fine.

They must surely be able to tell from looking at you that your hair is clean!

Next time, just shrug and say 'it doesn't need it.'

It would be terrible for me. Not particularly greasy of head but exercise/sweat? cooking smells? just general dirt?

I used to work in a hair salon and there were women who came in who never washed their own hair, they just came in for a blow dry once a week so it seems fine by me.

Oh I envy you! If only I could do that!!! Mine is so greasy I need to wash it every day. I can't seem to figure out how to stretch the gap

Thank you, I wasn't sure if it was really terrible! She's a bit of a mean old cow anyway so I won't be bothering with her in future.

Jammy I used to have to wash it more often but found persevering through the greasy stage an extra day or so made it last longer next time iykwim. I do have thick hair though.

I do the same but don't like to admit it! Saves on shampoo, I wash myself more frequently but my hair is long so I don't wash it often as it would take ages.

Silly cow. Ignore her she sounds about 14!

I wash mine daily as it gets greasy but my mum could go a week lucky mare.

There was an experiment that a journalist did and she stopped washing her hair. It went through the greasy stage and then seemed to self clean and the grease disappeared. Was interesting look on google.

Jammy have you tried shampooing twice and only conditioning the ends? It works for me means I can wash every other day (or even three days but tied back on the third)

I'm so jealous. Usually I can stretch it to every other day/ every three before looks like I've bathed in grease, but pregnancy hormones mean I have to wash it pretty much every day if I want it looking nice.

If your hairs not greasy why would you bother washing it Confused

GipsyHill · 10/10/2016 19:43

I used to wash my hair every day/ every other day as it's naturally very oily.

Recently bleached it and dyed it a bright colour which dried it out alot and now I'm down to once or twice a week at most.

Surely it depends on the type of hair you have how often it needs washed?

Take no notice of her- there's obviously nothing wrong with your hair if no-one picked up in it till you mentioned it.

Different bodies different needs. I can go 4 days sometimes. If I'm hormonal it might be 1-2 days. Summer more frequently, Winter longer gaps.
That woman was rude and vile.

DM has the most beautiful thick long hair and washes it every week or even longer, never smells, looks rank or greasy. If I don't wash mine every bloody day I look like someone tipped a chip pan over my hair. So different strokes for different folks. Sounds like Baby Group Pal is a bit of an overgrown school bully type 'eeeew'.

My mother's generation, once a week 'shampoo and set' was the norm. Earlier generations it would have been less frequent but lots of brushing.

Dry hair simply doesn't need or benefit from constant washing (I'm another Envygrease-prone still, its a pita)

Clearly your hair doesn't look or smell greasy or she wouldn't have been surprised to hear you wash it weekly

I wash mine daily, every other day if I'm feeling lazy. But what suits me isnot wgat suits many other people, I wouldn't judge them (unless they actually smelled!)

If I wash my hair too often it starts over producing grease, so I try to stretch it out, twice a week is about right for my hair type

My colleague is a lucky duck like you and can go a fortnight without washing her hair. She isn't at all disgusting. We work in retail and she is the most glamorous on trend staff member in the store (high street fashion store) she doesn't smell or look greasy at all. I am jealous. My head itches like mad after two days. I wish I could go a week without washing.

I wash mine maybe twice a week. I have short, thick hair that tends towards dryness. It styles far better when it's a bit dirty. Yanbu.

If it was gross then she would have noticed your hair was dirty! But she hasnt, so she's being silly.

What a ridiculous attitude! You obviously don't look singing or she would be keeping away from you to start off with.

I wash mine twice a week, but that's because it's as greasy as hell and if I leave it any longer it looks like I've dipped my head in a chip pan.

I do know a number of people who NEVER wash their hair. Apparently hair, if it is left to achieve its own natural balance, becomes self-cleaning.My son is one of these. He has long hair (past his shoulders), and just brushes it out to remove dust and bed fluff and loose hair etc.

I was really surprised when he told me this and said "Doesn't it smell?" And sniffed it. He said - "Well, what does it smell like?" I told him. "Eight months worth of cat spit." (His cat is always "washing" his hair for him.)

Actually, he smelled okay.
