AIBU?

AIBU to expect a refund from this craft lady?

There is a craft lady who has a Facebook page. She does Christmas boxes (they're lovely) and I brought one from my son. She then showed me some of her other makes that are Christmas themed, so I could save on the postage (as these other bits were not being put up until November) so I thought that was nice of her.

Before anyone says Santa is naff, don't bother Grin we love Santa in this house! She had these 'milk for santa' things, that she specificity said she had made them, etc. They were £5. My stuff arrived, all fine.

About a week later, I go into a shop similar to Poundland (everything very cheap) there they were £1... I brought one just so I could compare it, so I was 100%.

It is the exact same thing.

I message her and tell her and she goes "yeah, so?" Hmm and she explains that I never specifically asked if she made it!? Yet she clearly sold it to me as "these handcrafted bottles", I didn't really see the need for me to then ask as she has already stated it!

AIBU to want a refund? Angry

It's tough I'm afraid. Buyer beware. If you had seen it for a higher price would you give the difference to the woman?

You have been had. I would put message on her fb page pointing out to others so they are not taken in by her.

Put a review on the site saying how they are remarkably like those in Poundland!!

YANBU to want a refund but I doubt she will give in. If you were feeling particularly miffed you could write a review/post on her page but I suspect she's just trying to get by (albeit not very honestly)

Just take it as lesson learned and don't buy stuff from her again.

YABU, she did not say that she had handmade it. That's how people make money from such tat.

Depends if she has made any changes to it or included it as part of a bigger set.

I suppose she could just about add on the cost of going into town and buying whatever it is.

I don't mind cheap stuff added to boxes etc if there has been some effort put in.

Erm... she did say she had hand made it

Your op said she says 'these handcrafted bottles' she hasn't said she did.

You see sheriff in shops all the time advertised as hand made or hand crafted. It doesn't mean that John Lewis staff hand make them.

Yanbu to be annoyed, but I can't see how you have a leg to stand on.

I have a friend whose DIL does this - sees something in Poundland or Wilsons or wherever, buys a shipload and wings them on e-bay. She makes a canny living out of it.

Was it something like this?

Doesn't it often happen to all of us, that we buy something and later see it cheaper elsewhere? That is all that has happened to you. Many sellers sell the same goods...but at different prices. It is up to you to be fully informed and to know what else is available before you buy.

So, yes feel a bit irritated if you like....probably more at yourself than her...but just chalk it up to experience. I really don't think you have any right to ask for a refund - the good wasn't faulty, you paid a price you both agreed......realising it is available cheaper elsewhere ISNT grounds for a refund.

You've been had. You have zero chance of getting a refund. She just laughed at you.

Am I the only one wondering what a bleeding christmas box is?

Is this another american thing coming over? and fwiw I'm always surprised that people actually buy off these facebook pages, I saw someone advertising to do door bows soon, she was charging £25 to come to your house and wrap a bit of ribbon around your door... how lazy do you have to be that you'd pay that to have someone tie a piece of ribbon on your door for you???? Worlds gone mad!

Nowt you can do really. But still she's misleading people. Post a review but be aware that she may block you.

YANBU, she's trying to pass off Poundland tat as her own, I'd be furious and would definitely be pushing for a refund. Doesn't sound like she'll give one so I'd be warning others on local Facebook pages - not much point on her own page, she'll just delete your post.

Yabu.. Its a business. Most of the fb boxes like that come from poundland etc. Buyer beware.

"hand finished" means that some factory worker stuck 2 machine made bits together
"hand crafted" can mean the same
she never said she hand made them… which would be nonsense anyway if it's not a professional glass-blower's website.

You impulse bought something without doing a basic price comparison, I've just spent 30 seconds on amazon and seen em for £2 each all in!

It's annoying when we don't shop around and end up paying more than we should, we've all done it, but you have nobody but yourself to blame!

She didn't say she had made them just they were hand crafted, they probably were, by some poor Asian child in a sweat shop. You are not entitled t a refund, suck it up, but feel free to add a FB post to say comment that they are a quid in Poundland.

You've been had. Yanbu that you want a refund because you're angry but it;s kind of your fault that you bought without researching the high street. The Internet is full of charlatans selling high street stuff at a markup.

You must have seen the liberal use of "luxury" in real life to know that it means pricey and often very average whether it;s food or a new housing development.

Perfect example of how Christmas is an opportunity for people to make money, and why I opt out of it altogether.

That's rubbish of her! I would have expected the same as you - that she hand crafted it herself! Doubt you'll get a refund but I'd definitely post something in her page about it.
