AIBU?

To get my cat stuffed anyway?

My lovely cat is nearing the end of his life. I've always loved taxidermy but never owned any as dh hates it. He absolutely refuses to 'allow' me to get our cat stuffed.

Aibu to do it anyway?

It's a bit Norman Bates, surely?

7 there's absolutely no way I'd let any stuffed animal into my house.

Eek. It's up to you but I think it's a bit ghoulish. If my dh wanted to have one of our pets stuffed I wouldn't ban him but I wouldn't want to ever see it.
Sorry about your cat.

It's not that much, less than £150.

I know it's a bit creepy. There's no getting away from that. I am a bit of a creep though Grin

Yeah I'd probably leave my partner if they unilaterally did this to a shared pet...

I really wanted to do this with our old cat (scabbiest thing alive, broken teeth, blind in one eye, you get the picture) but our local taxidermist refuses to do pets. Instead we had him cremated and he's in a sleeping cat urn on the mantlepiece instead.

A friend wanted his dog stuffed and put on casters so he could still take him to the pub of an evening. His wife said no.

He's not really a shared pet. He was mine before I met dh.

How morally wrong would it be to go against his wishes?

The little cat urn sounds lovely too.

Now I really want to get DCat taxidermied when her time comes. I'd keep it a secret and hide her in the cellar/back of the wardrobe/somewhere I can send DH looking for something during a power cut Grin

Haha Monkey what a mean wife!

I saw someone made a cat helicopter thing. It looked so bizarre.

I have my old dogs ashes in a box behind my headboard. But I wouldn't have wanted to get him stuffed and see his body without his soul.

I have a Cuddle Clone of my old boy. I can really recommend them... not cheap, but worth it. They even got his little smudge under his chin right.

I'd wait until it had passed away first

not sure I'd like my lovely old puss preserved forever in a pose with glass eyes myself - that's why his ashes are in a box waiting to be scattered!

but each to their own

I am going to do it when mine dies, dont care if it is creepy.

If it is going to make your DH uncomfortable having it in the house, then YABU.

Besides, it is creepy and gross and is a disservice to a beloved pet to have them stuffed like some sort of adornment. Either bury or cremate your pet but don't stuff the poor thing.

Something like this would be stylish and practical for the winter months

To get my cat stuffed anyway?

A friend of mine did this.
Because the taxidermist didn't know her dcat it's 'wrong' if you get me? It's a very good cat but her dcat was very unique in the way it carried itself and the taxidermist didn't capture that (nor could they)

I might get mine mummified.

BishopBrennan raises a good point.

Try running a Google image search on 'bad taxidermy'

i understand it's probably not what you want but i had my OH's beloved cat's ashes made into jewellry for her, she loves it and it's a beautiful ring , you can have allsorts of other jewellery made or paperweights etc.

i wouldn't want a stuffed cat in the house but if OH wanted it that desperately I'd probably put up with it (as long as i didn't have to see it lol)

That is very stylish Limited but I don't think I'd have enough cat to stretch to that. He's only wee.

Good idea Liney! You could make a mini ancient Egypt scene in your garden with little pyramids.

O HOW UTTERLY FAINTMAKING.

Dead glassy eyes staring at you instead of the familiar loving twinkle?

Cold coarse hide instead of purring kitten-soft warmth?

The stiff corpse every time you walk into the sitting room?

I could get googly eyes instead of glass ones...
