To ask what your baby is wearing in bed at the moment

So we have started putting our 5 month old daughter to bed (cot, in our room) in a long sleeved vest and a 2.5 tog sleeping bag. According to the gro bag website she only needs a vest and a 1.5 tog bag with a room temp of 22 degrees (this is what the temp is currently)

I worry this isn't enough - she already wakes up with cold hands, and I'm wondering if she needs more on. We sleep with a 10.5 tog duvet and I am sometimes cold

On the other hand, I don't want her to overheat. We live in a new-ish house

I'm just wondering what you have your babies in - should I leave her as she is...?

My son is 11 months and he has a cosy sleep suit with feet and a blanket. It's so hard to judge and it sounds a bit mean but I'd prefer him to be too cool and wake up for an extra layer than too hot.

Vest, baby grow and a one tog grow bag. Seems about right.

Feel her chest or her back. If she's not clammy or boiling hot she's ok. Our house temp drops at night and DD is in a 2.5 tog sleeping bag and long sleeved top. If she feels warm I crack the window and leave it on latch. The guidelines are just that, my DD is super sweaty so gets hot easily and can't wear as many layers as recommended.

Best way is to just put your hand on her chest or back and you'll know.

Long sleeved vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog grobag. I'm fecking freezing so am like you at the moment OP and don't think just a vest would be enough.

DD is wearing a (short sleeved) bodysuit, a sleep suit and 2 blankets (which she normally escapes from by the morning).

It's totally normal for their hands to be cool, as other posters have said it's the temp of the back and chest that will give a better indication.

Long sleeve vest and 1.5 tog bag. He's a hot baby though.

It's fine for hands to be cool. If baby is sleeping ok, they're probably warm enough. Definitely better to be tool cool than too hot.
That said, DS was always too cold if I went by the GroBag advice. It took us a long time to realise why he kept waking. Another layer and he was a much better sleeper.

We're in Scotland so it's quite chilly here at the moment. She's in a long sleeve vest, a baby grow and a 3.5tog sleeping bag with arms. She runs cold. Unlike my eldest who sleeps naked with the covers flung off all year round.

I feel the back of her neck/upper back to see if she's warm enough.

Sleep suit plus 2 blankets, 1 up to armpits and the other up to belly button.

My 11 week old has a vest, sleepsuit and a 2.5 tog grobag (sleeping bag).

During the day downstairs he has a vest and sleepsuit on without getting too hot. Upstairs I feel it's cold and my groegg thermometer (that is on top of the wardrobe, so up high where heat should be rising) says it's only 19 degrees.

I feel cold in a duvet with pajamas on.

His hands feel warm now but it was the same temp last night and by the morning his hands felt like icicles. He doesn't feel hot just warm.

19 degrees with a 5 month old. 1.5 tog and long sleeved vest. She does seem to get hot more easily than most though but def prefer too cold than too hot.

My 10 week old is in a short sleeved vest, baby grow and thin blanket with holes in (mainly for comfort). Our bedroom temperature is about 23C.

Our 8 month old is wearing a short sleeved body suit and a long sleeved sleepsuit. Sometimes bumped up to a long sleeved bodysuit under the sleepsuit if it's colder. No sleeping bag or blankets - he just lies on top of the covers. Room is about 20C.

A short sleeved vest, sleepsuit and a 2.5 tog bag. DD cries if she's cold (6 months).

Sleepwhatsleep - that's way too many clothes - you can't compare your temperature as your duvet isn't wrapped all round you like a sleeping bag is and also you aren't a baby! It's dangerous to have s baby too hot as they can't regulate their temperature

Our bedroom is 19 degrees with the window open so plenty of airflow. DD2 has a long sleeved vest or sleepsuit, plus two cellular blankets. I'm about to move her into a 2.5 tog bag - we'll see how it goes, as she's a wriggler. It might help.

How do you all get these babies in sleeping bags?! My son acts possessed if we attempt to put him in one. Confused
