Am I?! It wouldn't be so bad if this pair of shoes weren't a pair of sketchers trainers, which I thought looked quite cool for their purpose- I walk and board dogs. So I need something comfy and practical for the day, but here comes the problem.
I caught sight of myself in the mirror last week and thought, gosh I look like I've given up on myself, and I really do. So I thought ah, it's getting cold, must be cape season!! Yes! I'll put on a cape, some leggings, knee high boots, that are just about comfortable enough, and I looked nice! You know like I'd actually thought about what I'd put on that morning, but I couldn't drive in these boots, so I thought I'll drive in flat dolly shoes. I can't drive in them either... so I'll admit it. I ended up in my tatty sketchers the rest of the day, which was beautifully Hmm paired with a black cape with a fur collar (faux of course!)

I feel like I'll never look tidy again. Does everyone else drive in their tatty comfy shoes, or is this a new driver type thing?

Could you keep the sketchers in the car to change into when you get in to drive them out your smart shoes on when you get out?

I've just got a new car and have worn the same pair everyday as it's hard enough driving a new one without dealing with different shoes too!!! Just have to bite the bullet, wear the different shoes and accept you will stall car a few times!!

It's a new driver thing. One day you'll forget to change your shoes and will be fine

I'm expanding my driving shoe collection. New car, not driven properly for years, so took it slow (first flat slip ons, then my knee high dm's, then my trainers and am working up to my heeled boot). Just try going quiet routes, with little traffic, just to get used to the feel and make sure nothing catches on the pedals. I found the best for me was that I forget I was wearing 'non-driving' shoes and just drove!

New driver thing IME.

I was the same for a few months but 6 years later I can drive in pretty much anything (including heels, flipflops or barefeet). The only thing I can't drive in is wellies.

I can't drive in heels or wedges. Well I can but I have to alter my seat which is a faff so on those occasions I either drive in bare feet/flip flops or chuck a pair of flatties in the car.
I actually prefer barefoot more than anything!

I can't drive in heels or boots with thick soles, feels really odd so I pretty much always just kick my shoes off and drive barefoot, I much prefer it Smile

I can drive in any flat shoes. I just generally change into my heels or boots or whatever when I get to my destination.

I knew someone who couldn't drive in shoes full stop. Bare feet only.

My friend was like this when she first passed her test. She's much better now but still can't drive in anything and has to consider her shoes when she's driving or keep a spare pair in the car. I can drive in anything but if I'm wearing heels or flip flops and doing a long journey I'd probably chuck something more comfortable in the car to drive in

I won't drive in anything like ballet flats as I think they are as dangerous as flip flops after one came off my heel in a driving lesson folded in half and stopped me pressing the clutch pedal fully Shock probably wouldn't drive in Wellies either and certainly not bare foot as I heard that was either illegal or could invalidate your insurance or something... Haven't double checked that but it makes sense. Also change my walking boots before driving but that's because they are normally muddy!

Just keep sketchers in the car and change your shoes when you get in the car. I do it for high heels, boots ect are ok but high heels are iffy! When I first passed my test I would only drive in thin soled trainers, it got easier, quite quickly actually once I was more confident!

Er...no. Can drive in anything from heels to barefeet.

Can also drive any car from a teeny Picanto, to a 4x4, up to a long wheel base transit (and have done).

Have friends who 'can only' drive their own car. Odd...

My DH thought I was crazy for doing this!! I have a certain style of shoe I like to drive in and went out of my comfort zone last week with shoes with a thicker sole. First few times it was difficult to drive and thought I was going to stall a few times lol but I was okay. My DH can drive in anything, trainers, shoes, work boots, etc but he has been driving for 12 years or so and I only passed a few years ago so I think it's a new(ish) driver thing :)

I find it hard to drive in heels or anything with a thick sole. Definitely couldn't drive in wellies!!

Nope you're not the only one! Haven't driven for a while but when I was learning to drive there was only two pairs of shoes I could drive in - my ballet-flat type shoes I wore to school or my super comfy Roxy shoes. Anything else just felt odd!

I've been driving for 10 years and always have to drive in flats. I can't 'feel' the pedals as well in big trainers or heels and flats just feel comfortable. I just change shoes when I arrive. So not a new driver thing.

I only drive in skechersxor my running shoes. I'd never drive in heels as you just do not have the control needed, likewise flip flops wellies or barefoot. I've been driving for ten years; I will drive anywhere at any time on any road but I like to feel completely in control of the several tonnes of metal I am whizzing along at great speed towards other human beings.

Op don't let anyone make you feel bad for it. I do often change into Skechers purely to drive and put other shoes on when I get out the car. As long as you feel safe and are controlling your vehicle then to hell with what anyone thinks.

It is not illegal to drive barefoot but I don't know about the effect on one's insurance. That could be worth checking.

New driver thing. I can drive in anything, but do not drive barefoot, in flipflops, ballet flats unless very snug fitting or high heels.

I've been driving 6 years and can only drive comfortably in slim converse trainers. It's strange! I just keep a pair in the car and change.

I don't think I've ever thought about it tbh. I drive in whatever I'm wearing at the time - although I never wear heels so maybe I would if I did?

When I first learnt to drive when I was 18, I deliberately learnt in my beloved 8 hole DMs as that's what I wore all the time so reasoned I had to be able to drive in them!
Then I didn't actually drive for about 20 years and re-learnt last year and I am now a middle-aged shoe changer. I don't like to drive in big heavy boots as I don't feel in control, so I usually put a pair of Toms on which are nice and light. I really don't care if this is a new driver thing or if I will be doing it for the rest of my life, as long as I am driving safely.
