AIBU?

To Stop Going To Aldi Because I Can't Keep Up At The Checkout?

I'm not doing that 'packing shelf' business because that's just loading/unloading the trolley twice. I can't keep up with their Olympic shopping chuck and get my bags packed fast enough though. I should just give up and go back to Tesco shouldn't I?

Unless you have just a handful of items and you can keep up with the checkout, you have to use the packing shelf thing. It's part of the deal. Imagine the queues if everyone insisted on bagging at the checkout.

I love Aldi checkouts, no idle chit chat. The trick is just throw everything in trolley then pack it at the back table.

We had this problem at lidl. We now just put it all back in the trolley and pack it at the boot of the car. Keep some boxes in the boot. Much better then bags.

That is the reason I don't shop at Aldi unless my partner can come with me. I find it overwhelmingly stressful.

Yes. Aldi is not a place where you get to choose where to pack.

I do so love Groovy Biscuits that it is a small price to pay.

Yabu.

Use a big blue ikea bag in your trolley. No double packing, no packing shelf.

Not my cup of tea. Much prefer the calmness of sainsburys. I always feel like I've done a workout afterwards. DH on the other hand loves it.

I find it much quicker now I'm used to it! I don't do the packing shelf either, I pack into large ikea bags in the boot.
Just make sure you put not squishable stuff on the conveyer first, tins, bottles, boxes, frozen stuff, then fruit & veg, then soft stuff/breakables. Light packets, crisps, baby wipes literally get swept in with my arm. I find it so much quicker that even when I do go to other shops I use the same mentod cos packing into bags at the conveyor takes ages!

YABU. I love the whole "fling the shopping through the checkout and into your trolley" business.
Gets it over and done with so much quicker, and don't have to deal with being stuck behind dithery people who you feel like giving a good smack round the head and telling them to get the hell on with it. Grin
Seriously, it's not hard. I don't see the problem.
Just put the shopping into your trolley as it comes through the conveyor belt, and then wander over to the packing shelf and do it in your own leisurely time. Take as much time as you want and let us impatient sods get on with it. Grin

I can deal with the packing shelf but they are super bossy and pushy about the trolley position! Wanted to sock the lady in there the other day when she grabbed my trolley and made faces cos she didn't like the way I'd got it. Not busy at all either.

I space all the stuff out on the conveyor belt, it seems to slow scanning down a bit! But I generally only ever buy a basketful of stuff.

Yep I love it too 👍

I always pack at the checkout. I use big bags for life and open them in the trolley and pack straight into them. Rules are there for breaking! Grin

Just use the bloody packing shelf! Why on earth would you not?

I love it!! It means you can really take your time to pack everything in a really geeky organised way, so the putting away is lovely and smooth at home! The IKEA bag is a good idea though, if you want to bag at the checkout.

I love the speediness and the price more than makes up for it. However YANBU to change if you don't like it.

I love the Aldi checkout efficiency! It IS possible to keep up but only if you have half a trolley, an extra packer, put your items on the conveyor in order and have your bags already open in the trolley. Takes practice though.......

Then you can just throw it all back in and unpack at home

I would go to Aldi if it had self scan.

It's easy!

Empty food on to conveyor, then open up bags and place them in tge trolly, pull out the trolly's little shelf on the bottom put a couple of open bags on there, hang frozen food bag on little bag hangy thing under the handle. Then when its your turn at the check out just chuck it all in the bags. Pay walk away Smile

I just go at my own speed. What are they going to do about it??

Don't bend to the pressure.
