About birthday bread

It's my 40th birthday tomorrow.

I don't want presents or a party or anything at all other than a card from DS and DH and lunch out with my family. So I think my demands and expectations are low.

But I've been on a no carb diet for a couple of weeks and I've decided I want eggs benedict for my birthday breakfast. On really nice bread. It's all about the bread. I am slightly obsessed with the joy of eating some bread in the morning and really looking forward to it.

Tonight I made some homemade Hollandaise in anticipation.. And I asked DH to go out and get some really nice bread.

He asked "what is really nice bread to you?"

I said something like a sourdough loaf or just a really nice one. We live near a Booths and they do loads of lovely, artisan type loaves. I said if there's no nice bread left just get some muffins.

He came back with this

A plain brown loaf. Granted it's unsliced but he thinks he's been awesome going out for he bread. I haven't mentioned it as I am well aware the carb freeness may be making me U but............AIBU?

Yeah, I think you are a bit. 'Just a really nice one' is at the discretion of that seems 'really nice' to the person buying it. I guess to him this is 'really nice'.

I'm not seriously, hugely pissed off about this or anything, I was just looking forward to some nice bread and that is rubbish bread. :)

Eggs Benedict is meant to be on a muffin, so YABU to suggest having it on anything not a muffin.

Also that looks like pretty nice bread to me, I think if you wanted something specific you should have been more specific. I never leave important food to guess work.

YANBU. When I was pregnant I sent dh out for chocolate, he came back with Munchies, fucking munchies!! It was 12 years ago I still remember the feeling of disappointment.

I guess never leave important food to guesswork is right,

I know it should be a muffin but it's lovely on sourdough so that would have been first choice, then muffins. Which I should have stated. I'm sure it will be perfectly nice bread. It's just not the bread I was dreaming of :)

He forgot the bread altogether the first time he went to the shops and did a second trip especially for it. Which somehow makes it worse :)

Oh FGS of course YANBU.

Nice bread means sourdough, really crusty white with fluffy centre, something with poppy seeds scattered artfully on the surface, something that's probably not particularly healthful and that you may well end up eating an entire loaf of smothered in real butter.

I had the same thing once- asking for organic/sourdough (aka something naice) and I can't remember what he came back with but it was a disgrace

I bet your bread is actually really nice though. And if you're on a no carb kick I think it'll be nice to retrain yourself onto wholewheat. Warm the oven up in the morning then turn it off and leave your loaf in there for 10 minutes. It'll be just warm and freshen it up nicely.

YADNBU. Don't waste your carbs on that crap. It will be soft and airy and slightly dry; not chewy and glutenus and delicious.
