AIBU?

'forgot' to pay me....

Got my pay slip (monthly) today to find due to a massive cock-up on their part, they will be under paying me by £600 tomorrow. I've been told there's nothing they can do and i'll have to wait till next pay day for it to be paid. No compassion what so ever.

AIBU to want to cause hell over this. I refuse to be without half my pay for another 4 weeks! I won't be able to afford to live. Apparently is it the norm for people to wait till their next pay day, even when it's their fault. Norm for them maybe! Is it actually normal to wait?

No you should not be out of pocket, ask for a cheque/bankers draft

I would be demanding they pay it either as cash/BACS payment or you will be seeking legal advice - they have breached their contract with you

This makes me so angry! It happened to a friend some years ago and she got the "nothing we can do" either. I can't see why not - it's their mistake and they should be able to raise an emergency cash transfer FFS.

How would they be able to manage with half their pay? People have commitments - mortgage, car etc as well as food and fun, and can't just say "Oh well, I'll only pay half this month because my Arsehole employer didn't bother to give me my wages."

Are you in a union? See if they can make them pull their finger out.

No they are trying it on. My company tried to do this to me. They can make an emergency payment. Its just more hassle for them

They can make a CHAPs payment- go and see HR. They are trying it on as it costs them to do it.

Of course there is something they can do they can transfer you the money that they owe you. What a load of rubbish, is it just you or have they done this to others too? I'd def kick up a massive fuss.

There is no way you should have to put up with this. Fight it all the way to the top if you need to.

That's absolute rubbish! If they can't redo the actual pay roll, they can make an interim payment to you as a loan that's deducted from your next payment.

The company can and should make the payment, immediately. It is not normal for people to wait to be paid in these cases (if paid in arrears it will be eight weeks in arrears) it is normal for responsible employers to do all they can to rectify ASAP. It could be paid by CHAPS usually about 24hrs or BACHS which is a bit longer.

Don't take no for an answer, speak to your manager and if the correct answer is not received go to HR.

This is their cock up they should rectify it ASAP.

I agree with everyone else in that they can sort it sooner they just don't want to as it's more hassle for them

They can pay but they can't be arsed. Kick up an almighty fuss.

I can guarantee that if it had happened to the MD they would rectify it pretty quickly. Raise a real stink until they pay you.

Sorry - but having worked in HR previously, I would say this is unacceptable.

If it is your mistake - eg not submitting overtime on time - then yes'm you should wait until next pay run.

If it is the company's fault then they should pay you ASAP by BACS / CHAPS.

Please persue this. You need this money - although actually, that s irrelevant. They have not paid you what you are entitled to and they should rectify their mistake.

They can pay you. I've made a mistake on a payroll before and rectified it. I'm horrified if I make a mistake. It's not fair on those who rely on their pay to pay their bills.

They can pay you same day or next via BACS. I used to have to raise emergency payments all the time when people made errors of this kind. It used to cost us £120 a time which is why they won't want to do it but that is tough luck for them!!

Dont bother the legal route as someone said. By the time the court issues a claim form and serves it, it will near as damn it pay day anyway.

Just make then issue you an emergency payment.

If it's your standard wages, then I'm pretty sure they have a legal obligation to pay you in full on time. Not sure if it's different for overtime, etc. They can do an adjustment to the payroll to pay you, or they can put it through as an 'advance' on the system and do the adjustment with the next payroll. If it's their fault, they need to fix it! I've worked in payroll for a few different companies, big and small, and a mistake by the company would always be rectified.

Definitely not on. We are a fairly small company - around 40 employees and I would do a one off payment to correct this.

If, as that comment seems to suggest, they make a habit of this, I'd be wondering about their cash flow personally Hmm

They should bacs pay you, would hit your bank account in 3 days (4 if it's after a certain time, 2:30 I think) With a heartfelt apology.

They could ask if you could wait until next month but need to make payment if you say no (understandably)
