AIBU?

to think that parking your huge motor home on the street is not on?

A house down the road from us randomly has a big motor home for a few weeks at a time. They don't go anywhere in it, just park it up outside the house Confused they also have a minibus, small car and an estate car. They only have space for one car on the drive so they take up tons of space on an already narrow road. They park so close to the corner that you can't see if there's anything coming your way until you're bumper to bumper!

It drives me crazy but dh thinks I'm getting annoyed for no reason. I just think it's hugely selfish to take up so much space.

I agree, it would annoy me.

It's not great, but what do you suggest? Only people with garages or off street parking have them?

Report

I assume so as it just sits there for weeks at a time and then vanishes for another month or so.
I don't think you should have a motor home unless you can fit it on your drive.

Surely you'd never get a large motor home in a garage? Irrational or not, it would really annoy me!

X post ApocalypseSlough yeah I pretty much do think that! If it was a big street then maybe not as bad but they already have 3 vehicles with 1 space. It is rude.

Sorry but YABU regarding it being parked legitimately on a road. I assume it is taxed and insured.

I do agree it shouldn't be parked where it causes an obstruction on a bend though.

There are places where you can pay to store a caravan for this reason. If they can't park it appropriately then could they use somewhere like that?

Gaa sorry wonky internet connection!

YANBU- surely if it won't fit on your drive you need to find storage for it. No different to a caravan really!

Like it or not, a motorhome is simply a large car, to all intents and purposes and is perfectly entitled to park anywhere a car can, providing (just like a car), they are not causing an obstruction.
It is different from a caravan (for example), because it is taxed and tested, just like a car.

They shouldn't be parking it in a way that causes an obstruction, but YABU re the comment about parking it on a drive. Should people who don't have drives not be allowed motorhomes?

It's either legal or not. The Council either allows it or not.

My Friend got a ticket for parking too close to a junction / corner. No lines on road but deemed to be causing an obstruction. Maybe take a photo and send to local councils traffic department and ask for advice?

When we bought our house some of the stuff the solicitor sent for is to sign included a comment about not parking caravans, motorhomes or boats on our drive or anywhere within the close. We'd never heard of that before and as we have no intention of owning or parking any of the above thought nothing more of it. Don't suppose your stuff said anything similar?

I'll have a look through mrs. We got a load of bumpf like that too.

Going to start taking photos of the car too cos that really is the biggest pain in the ass. I've been so close to crashing because of it.

Fwiw I don't have a problem with a MH not on a drive but this street is already quite narrow. They have to park close up on the kerb so that you have to detour on to the road if you have a pushchair.

It gets me so angry!

We had something in our paperwork about not being allowed to park caravans, motorhomes etc on the road when we bought our house, so it's not by any means certain that they are allowed to park there. Would probably annoy me too!

You're not allowed to park on a pavement.

My in laws have a small camper van but they have a drive they park it on. One of my neighbours have a camper van on their drive then a large white van and several cars they park on the pavement so you can't get a pushchair past. There house is also on the bend of the round so of course they park outside their house so you can't see round the corner. Keep expecting there to be an accident.
