AIBU?

To be annoyed that my new neighbours are hammering right now?

They've just moved in (haven't even had chance to go round with a bottle of wine to welcome them yet) and are hammering away doing DIY and goodness knows what else. Its after 8pm and we can hear everything through our walls, so the hammering is LOUD and been going on a while. I have no problem with noise, we live in close proximity to our neighbours with thin walls but still hammering is a particular type of noise I don't want to hear in the evening!!!

Probably not helped by the fact that both my DC and my DH are sick in bed right now. I'm fully prepared to be told by you all that IABU as its not that late....

(The place they've moved into btw is imaculate and the builders have only just finished everything to their spec so WTF are they actually hammering???!)

Maybe they're putting pictures up on the wall? Hopefully it will stop soon otherwise maybe go around with the wine and offer to help so will get done quicker Grin

My neighbour regularly drills things in her garage (who knows what - maybe just for the sake of it Confused) until 1am. They've been doing up their house for over 2 yrs now....

Are they maybe fitting carpets? Before we moved into our new house we went round one evening to fit the carpets. I knocked on our soon to be neighbours to let hem know what we were doing, roughly how long we'd be, and that if it got to be to much noise then let us know and we'd finish the rest the next evening.

I'd given them until 9pm then give a little knock and ask if they expect to be doing whatever it is they're doing for much longer. You can be mice about it, introduce yourself, explain that your DH and DC are poorly.

Lol at the shackles and pole!!! I won't be able to look at them without thinking that now Grin

Unfortunately can't go round with wine as can't leave the house a DC sick and DH our at A+E now Sad - hopefully he'll just get some meds and be back soon, feeling better.

Bearfrills, good suggestion, 9pm it is, if DH is back from hospital (I'm being positive here on the waiting times Smile

I would give them a break. They just moved in. They have a lot to do. Assume they wont turn into permanent noisy neighbours just because they are trying to crack on and get their house sorted

When we moved in we were hammering until almost 10 trying to build our bed to sleep in. We had one day to move and needed to use all the time we had! Cut them some slack theyve probably had an awful stressful day

Hope your DC and DH feel better soon Flowers

Sorry your husband is at a and e and you are concerned about the noise from the neighbours at 8pm. When you move in there are so many jobs that need doing in a short time, be a good next neighbour and either roll up you sleeves and see if they need help or just ignore it.

When my new neighbours moved in there was a lot of banging and hammering for the first few evenings, I imagine things like putting carpets down, getting shelves and curtain rails up and putting furniture together. It'd go on til about 11pm but stopped after a few days. I should imagine they're just rushing to get the essentials sorted rather than that they're genuinely inconsiderate nieghbours.
