AIBU to want a bird feeder in the front garden?

Moving to a new house. Big front garden - mainly lawn with a boarder of plants and a drive way. Big windows looking out onto the lawn from the dinning area.

I would like to put www.diy.com/departments/gardman-steel-feeding-station/189472_BQ.prd in the front garden, as we won't use the front but can watch the birds from the dinning area. DH says it's not the done thing and it should be in the busy back garden.

AIBU?

Put it where you want

Doesn't matter. The birds will find it

Plenty of people do this. It may get taken for scrap metal though.

Seen it in loads of front gardens. Your garden, your choice...

I heard bird feeders attract mice so although I love them Ive not bought one for that reason!

We have one. DS loves seeing the birds eat from it.

Why not? A woman in the next street gets an amazing number and variety of birds in her front garden with her feeders. It goes down some steps so is a bit of a half-basement level and you go down some more steps to get into her house. I think that and the shrubs she's planted makes them feel a bit safer. They're wild birds but in her garden they're incredibly tame and trusting.

Thanks all. DH suggested asking mumsnet as he thought you'd agree with him.

Quitelikely - We're rural so there's plenty of mice anyway!

Never notice mice near ours. But you'll need to make it squirrel proof. And the birds prefer it if there is tree cover not far away so than they can dodge predators.

Absolutely no reason why you shouldn't feed the birds in the front garden, I do both front and back but mine gets hung from a branch and not a posh feeding station Smile

Ours is in the front garden so the kids can watch them through the window from their little table whilst having lunch or drawing. No reason why it has to be in the back.

I have one of these in the front garden opposite the front door. We live in a rural area so we get quite a lot of wildlife visiting - as well as the garden birds we have had pheasants, woodpeckers, deer, foxes, red squirrels and even a starving abandoned kitten last year
