AIBU?

Victoria Beckham's Fashion Show Models

Anyone see them? They look quite ill. Some of them are less than a size 4 (UK) and one has the waist of an 8 year old. Of course the usual fashion pack hailed it as a success of a show. They are all living in cloud cuckoo land and keep each others egos going.

AIBU to think it's sending a very unhealthy message to younger girls using these models? I thought the fashion industry had woken up to this.

The thing that struck me about the models she used for that particular show was how very unhealthy they looked. It wasn't just the thinness - although that was shocking - but the sunken eyes, the lank hair, the expressionless faces.

We get used to seeing thin women walking the catwalk but I guess I assume that they are going to be attractive in spite of that thinness. Kate Moss is very slender but also has a beautiful, vivid face. But it seemed all these models had to recommend them was their thinness.

I think it's sad to give the message that this is what high fashion is - Size Zero - and that this is what girls should aspire to.

Mind you most of the teenagers I teach are (a) very aware of how the media and the fashion industry seeks to manipulate them and (b) would be distracted by how utterly hideous the clothes are in that collection.

I'd love the supermodels to come back. Cindy Crawford, Karen Mulder, Helena Christiansen, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell etc. All unusually tall and thin of course, but vibrant and fit looking. In fact, rather like Victoria in her Spice Girl days, with her healthily slender frame and glossy bob (her hair is allegedly thinning badly now).

I recently watched the documentary about the scouted Siberian 13 year old who was sent to Tokyo to model, following a bikini-clad cattlemarket appearance in front of middle aged western talent spotters. It was disgusting. The kid had barely gone through puberty and looked so fragile. She beat hundreds of other frail dead-eyed adolescents to it.

To pp, sadly this is what the 'haute couture' industry wants you to do. Their USP is the unusual, the exceptional, the unique (the weird, even) - can they really inhabit that sphere if they show the clothes on the girl/boy next door?

Yes i thought that all that velvety drapey stuff would look much nicer on curvy healthy looking people - those models looked like they had just come out of hospital

I know they try and be unique/cutting edge but who the hell wears these contraptions???

Yes the models looked not only thin but very unwell. I don't care what anyone says, they really can't have a great relationship with food.

Models always look miserable - even if the stories about not eating are untrue, what an awful way to earn a living. I hope it pays well.

But it is obvious that a lot of them are very sick.

No one should support this 'industry'.
