AIBU?

to STILL not understand how Facebook works?

I was late to FB, joined about 7 years ago as I have much younger half siblings who like to communicate this way. I only have a few (80) friends.

I still don't understand how/why FB chooses what I get to see on my news feed and when.

My laptop has been on all day as I was working this morning and I have a tab open for FB, which I've looked at a few times.

About 10 minutes ago I saw a photo in my newsfeed - which was posted by one of my best friends this morning. This is one of my "top 5 friends" if you like, a really close rl friend and if she puts a picture up I like or comment (and she does the same to me). So why, if she posted it 10 hours ago, have I not seen it until 10 minutes ago Confused ?

Are you viewing 'top stories' instead of 'most recent'?

I think it depends on how active you are with that particular friend, how many people have reacted to or commented on that post and the activity or interestingness of other things that have been posted before or since.

FB is pretty easy really

If there are a few people who you want to make sure you don't miss anything then if you do to their FB page - it will tell you that you are friends - press the tab and it should give you the option of 'seeing first' this basically means all their posts will appear at the top of your wall whenever you log on Smile

I switch back to "most recent" instead of "top stories" every few days. Is there any way I can make that a permanent choice? I don't have thousands of friends, and some of them are not all that active, so I wouldn't mind seeing everything they post.

Like I said TheRedCarWon - this is one of my best friends, in RL and on FB. So I don't understand why I first saw her picture 10 hours after she put it up.

I don't think you can make "most recent" a permanent thing.
There is a way of choosing the people who's feeds you see first though. It's that little star next to the follow tick when you go on their profile.

Could it be that a mutual friend either liked or commented on it and that then returned it to the top of your newsfeed.
