AIBU?

To be a bit annoyed?

A friend asked me to look after their DC while both of them had to work.

Now this is from 7:30am-5pm and 40ish miles drive each way. So myself and DC woke at 6 (we are usually up at 5:30 anyway) to get ready and to give us time to get there.

So we set off at 5:55am and arrived only home at 6:30pm.

I asked before this if they would assist with petrol money, which I think is fair enough. They said they would give me £40 as they'd pay more than that for a child minder for those hours on a Saturday.

During my time there, I cared for their 11month old like he was my own, cleaned the kitchen head to foot as it was filthy, the lounge and the bathroom.

This was 2 weeks ago. I was told before I arrived, that when I arrived they would give me the cash so I wasn't short after paying for fuel to get there.

The guy friend said 2 days ago he'd transfer it over that day. Nothing. He then said last night he was just about to do it. Nothing.

I messaged this morning to see how the DC was (as I regularly do) and I've not heard from them all day which is very unusual.

Also 2 days ago they asked me to watch DC next week whilst they both work. I said yes only on the basis that I could get the cash a few days before I come down. They said yes.

So down to my AIBU.

AIBU to feel like they are taking the piss? Expecting me to go act like a child minder and cleaner and use my own cash (to end up short) whilst they both work and both get paid a full days wage whilst having a free child minder?.

I've been £35 short last week due to this. Which isn't much but on a skint week, it adds up.

Aibu?

Then don't babysit anymore

You must be mad! Absolutely out of your mind. You've driven 80 miles and cleaned and cared for their child and you were only charging £40 and they haven't paid you and they want you back again? And you're considering this??

Grab some self-respect. Tell them to put the money into your bank tonight. Then tell them you're not doing any more for them.

They are absolutely taking the piss.

I'm not sure if I've understood this correctly.

They agreed to give you £40 to cover both childminding and petrol?

YA definitely NBU, please don't go again until they've paid you!

You're annoyed. I'd be bloody livid.

Tell them to drop the kid off at your place, you get a lie in and to spend the day cleaning your own place.

Glad I'm not being unreasonable.

Thought I was being a twat because asking a friend to help assist with money. But i did them a favour when they were stuck, leaving myself out of pocket and DD and myself shattered once we arrived home (before then if I'm honest).

Yes I am considering going back next week. Why? Because I'm a push-over and I love their DC!.

Should I message now and ask them to transfer it tonight?

Oh dear! Why am I getting a Halo?

I'll message in a few mins and see what they say.

My phone is on its way out so will update in the morning.

I think I remember your thread? Wasn't the house completely minging? Time for some straight talking. "You still owe me £40 from last time. You really ought to pay me that before you even think of asking for more of my time". They are taking the piss.

Yeah that was me. Sad

I've messaged now. It's on iMessage and I can see he's read the message I sent last night and the one I sent this morning. Also he's shared things on FB so I'm guessing he's just avoiding me.

You are being taken for a twat OP

They are using you. The kids may be lovely and you may adore them but you really want to be treated that way?

Littlepeople12345 · 03/09/2016 20:39

Have you sent it? They sound like proper piss takers!

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 03/09/2016 20:39

How unpleasant of them. Don't help them again and blank them. But keep asking for what you are owed.

Yeah well, they clearly don't love your kids, otherwise they wouldn't dream of leaving their mother short of cash.

I bet they ignore you and never pay the original £40 chancers.

Blueshoessingloose · 03/09/2016 20:58

I'd tell them I'd do it if they put the money into my bank account and then not turn up. Leave them hanging.

Ok...what in the world, op!!! They are using you up one side and down the other. There is nothing whatsoever in your post that indicates they are in the right AT ALL.

Leave these people to their own devices and enjoy your own family. Then rejoice that you don't allow manipulators to use you anymore.

Have nothing else to do with them. You are exactly the type manipulators look for to use for their own benefit.

I pay my cleaner £20 for 2 hours! You agreed to £40 so that's that but the fact it's not been paid is a piss take.
