These seem to have been getting more popular the last few years. Why? So some guy can serve you a burger cooked on a steel dustbin lid and charge you a fiver? Or a minuscule portion of curry and rice cooked in an African steel drum for £7?

Plus full of hipsters or self proclaimed "foodies" wankers

Yes, I've been to one flagellates self

Street food is fabulous in it's original intended setting - you know, where it's a real thing! Here it's just, as you say, hipsters getting on the bandwagon, overcharging and not even cooking very well!

Even worse: a pop-up restaurant selling street food.

We went to one today and really enjoyed it. Not a hipster or a foodie. (checks for beard).

It's great when cooked by those who are actually from the places and cultures they're mimicking, so know when they're doing. Not so great when cooked by Ollie and Janet who have just moved into an "awesome" two bed in Dalston having grown up in the Home Counties and find the diversity just "awesome".

^this. This is what is wrong with 'street food'. Actual street food in its proper habitat is lovely (except that one time when I got food poisoning). Crap facsimiles at farmers' markets are not the best.

It can be nice me and dh really like the Mexican street food in the nearest town, it's just a bit hit & miss with a lot of the vendors.

It's never as good as eating it in the real place, bit like curry I've never had one as good as in India
