AIBU?

I have been accepted on to Masterchef

What is this going around on face book?
I have in the last 2 days had two "friends" saying they have been accepted onto Masterchef.
One is a professional Caterer and I thought you had to be an amateur chef to apply?
The other is a self-confessed train wreck in the kitchen
So is it some sort of face book thing? or AIBU to think these two friends can't possibly be going on Master chef?

It's one of those things to get you to comment & pass on.

It's not real

Hmm. I know of a professional caterer who had just been accepted on master chef. I wonder if it's the same person?

I don't know, but it'll be some shite to "raise awareness" of one cause or another that won't work because no one knows or cares what it's about.

It's to raise awareness about some form of cancer. If you reply the person will send you a PM with some form of cancer awareness blurb & then challenge you to post the same on your wall.

It's bloody 'awareness' bollocks. The kind of thing shared by huns with no brain cells, or well-meaning but clueless people who somehow think being cryptic helps people with cancer.

Oh Sad I thought this was going to be another fabulous thread like ComeWineWithMes one where she was a contestant on... Come dine with me.

It was fab until they found it and it had to be deleted.

Oh god my FB feed is full of people having run out of loo roll and having to use their socks. I wish it had been masterchef...

Chain letter - followed by 'nyah nyah fooled you, you now have to do x...'

No i dont. This was a stupid game even in the playground.

It's another one of those 'hilarious' prankster chain letters to raise awareness for cancer or something.

It's one of those stupid things where if you like/comment you get a moronic response saying something like "Ha ha you fell for it, this is to raise awareness of cancer, you have to post XYZ on your own timeline!"

It's pathetic. Someone on my FB page who I thought would know better posted something yesterday about how she was giving up wearing underwear. Not one "like", not one comment.

It's just so daft and "look at me" isn't it? Does it actually do anything positive for "awareness" of cancer at all?

Because it's a bit of fun, innit hun? Hmm

I have a very lovely friend who is hosting one of those Macmillan Coffee Mornings to raise fund, and another who was doing a sponsored walk around Glasgow today to raise funds for the local cancer unit.

THAT'S how you raise awareness. Not by posting shite on your Facebook. Problem is that the real awareness-raising requires effort.

Argh. I did this. I allowed myself to be badgered in to it. [bangs head on desk]. I did assume that people would recognise it was a wind up and ignore it (I really am a trainwreck in the kitchen)

I am so ashamed. I normally avoid this stuff like the plague.
I have had to turn my FB feed off - and I have apologised profusely to anyone that clicked.

Its for Breast Cancer Care - quite how it is supposed to help I have no idea.
Just ignore it and scroll on (and remind yourself normally nice people can be dumb on occasions).

Thought it couldn't be for real!
Honestly! These two women are not RL friends and both attention seekers via FB.
Glad I didn't bother commenting but they have had loads of well done, cant wait to watch it etc

I've also seen "I've won £900 on a scratch card" and "I'm out of toilet roll, bye bye socks!" - what the actual. If you comment then you get a PM saying ha ha you fell for it, chose one of the following statements and put it as your status, see how many people you can fool., but not on the actual status. I commented on one of the scratch card ones (because why wouldn't that be real? Ugh) which is how I know...

I hate it. I think it is horrible and just trying to make other people look stupid. I do not like.

It's another of those "raise awareness" things that raises no awareness of anything at all.

I have occasionally "liked" a post someone has done along these lines and then got the message telling me it's to raise awareness and I have to put something on my timeline. I don't as I grew out of chain letters many years ago.

It's a shame for anyone that has actually got onto Masterchef as no one will want to touch their FB post with a barge pole.

And jdging by this, they're 2 years out of date.

"You should not have liked or commented! Now you have to pick one of the 14 below and post to your status. This is the 2014 breast cancer awareness game. Don't be a spoil sport choose your poison, and change your status 1) Damn diarrhoea 2) Just used my boobs to get out of a speeding ticket 3) Anyone have a tampon, I'm out 4) How do you get rid of foot fungus 5) Why is nobody around when I'm horny? 6) No toilet paper goodbye socks! 7)Someone offered me a job as a prostitute but I'm hesitant. 8)I think I'm in love with someone what should I do? 9)I've decided 2 stop wearing underwear. 10)It's confirmed.. Yeah I read one of these the day my dad died (from cancer) and I admit to getting a bit ranty about how 'moving to Australia - not! Was unlikely to help anyone with cancer. Having watched someone die slowly over 3 years I found it quite offensive.

I'm sure people don't realise that they are being muppets !

In my experience too the people who do the most to raise awareness/funds for any sort of charitable cause are the least likely to post about it on Facebook.
