AIBU?

Sharing towels

Lighthearted one here and suspect may be told this is very much a first world problem....

Towels.

When I was growing up we always had our own towels. Not just "own" in terms of not sharing a wet/used towel but I had pink towels, dsis had yellow, mum had green and dad blue. You NEVER used someone else's - helped yourself to a clean one from airing cupboard but always your own colour.

Fast forward to now. My kids have their "own" (distinctive striped/coloured/embroidered but not with a colony rule). DH thinks it's reasonable for him/me just to take any clean towel from the place we store clean towels and use it. This means he's currently got my lovely yellow white company super duper bath sheet. He says that as I've got another towel he can't see the issue. Apparent when he was growing up they just took any clean towel from the airing cupboard.

He thinks I'm weird for wanting "my" towels to be mine. I think he's weird for not wanting his own (we have loads of nice towels - don't get me into him using parts of the matching sets of guest towels.....)

So AIBU or is he?

I'm like you but DH thinks I'm being silly. I find it annoying that he borrows my swimming goggles, bike helmet, car etc and alters the item to suit him. Apparently that's me being unsharing & overly possessive.

We all just grab whatever is on top of the pile. I have other towels I bought for the kids when they go swimming and my youngest has a couple of hooded towels. The only ones that don't get shared are the hooded ones as there's not enough towel for my ass .

We grab any towel. You've just had a bath/shower. Your clean.

If it's dirty after the person has used it (usually me during a period) it goes straight in the wash.

We started out having our own towels (4of us, different colours) but it became too much faff when someone ran out or didn't put it in the laundry/needed extra for swimming etc - we now just use whatever's available (usually wet, and on the floor)

Most of our towels are the same colour, just a few different ones. DH and I use our towels for a few days. We use different showers so hang them up and there's no confusion.
I would never have thought ever of having different towels for different family members, seems a bit odd but I guess whatever works for different people!

sorry yabu.
whats wrong with taking the first freshly washed towel from the cupboard?
I think you make yourself too much work.

I would love to be organised enough to have colour coded own towels Envy

We share towels...sometimes we even share used ones Blush

Ds had some hooded ones that we don't use though.

My family was like yours. I started out with pale pink towels, then my mum swapped me for dark grey ones when i discovered hair dye and fake tan Grin

I like my own towel!

He is.

We all have our own towels and woe betide anyone who uses one that is not designated theirs.

Dh and I share towels and the dds share towels however the real question is:

How often do you use a towel before you wash it? 😉

No, no, no Op. You need to take this to the appropriate end.
DH and I do not share bathrooms, let alone towels!
MY towels are stored in the cupboard in MY bathroom. They are MINE and MINE alone.
All other towels go into the airing cupboard on the landing by his the family bathroom. Anyone can use them. Though now it is mostly just him and me at home so life is easier.
Build another bathroom and be the only person with the key. Wear it on a string around your neck.
It's the only way.

We all share towels. I don't want my bathroom looking untidy with loads of different coloured towels hanging up! I'd never heard of not sharing before mn.

And I wash them when they stop smelling of washing powder Grin.

We grab whatever the next one is from the drawer, I haven't got the energy to care about a towel being 'mine', we just share them - when you've just got out of the bath/shower you're clean anyway!!

We are kind of flexible on which towels are who's but not the idea of using a towel someone else has used without washing it. Yuck.

Cathaka15 · 28/08/2016 15:37

If it's clean anyone can use it. In our house.

OP I understand what you mean. The fact that specific towel is YOUR towel I get that. I would love to have colour co-ordinated towels though! This reminds me of Monica from friends when she has 'guest' towels. I don't see a problem with it at all. I'm a germophobe so this would be right up my street. However, theres only me, DP and DC (who is just a baby) in the house so it wouldn't be much point having separate towels.

I do however have a towel for hand drying and then normal ones if I'm having a shower.

DCs all have their own colour. I got sick of the fighting so it's easier. It also stops DD1 from hoarding towels in her hovel bedroom. DP and I share a colour.

A bit confused as to what 'sharing' towels means on here. Are some posters saying they reuse an unwashed towel that someone else has used?

When my DCs all lived at home we used any of the towels in the cupboard or reused our own - couldn't be bothered with the faff of having different coloured towels for each person - but using an unwashed towel that someone else has already dried themselves on is just revolting.

We both just use whatever except for DS as I wash his in non-bio due to excema.

DH will use my towel after I've used it too and won't bat an eyelid then hang it up and use it again tomorrow.

Life's to short to worry about towels.

@pigsdofly - you wouldn't want to meet DH then

We all use whatever is in the bathroom. Can't be arsed otherwise. I thought everyone did this until I came on MN

We have a set of towels but we always have our 'own' mine is hung in the back of the bathroom door and his on the radiator so we don't get confused but I refuse to share

We have our own towels. I also wash them on 90degrees lol. I don't want to share a towel with someone that's been on their bum and then your face PMSL
