14 years working in a dept and not even a cheap bunch of flowers

Massively outing myself here but....

I have just left a department that I worked in for 14 years and wasn't even given a cheap bunch of flowers. 14 years!!!

I've contributed to many peoples leaving presents and I didn't even get a card from the department either. I did get a card from the team I worked with last night but nothing from the whole department.

Its made me feel very sad and upset when I know I shouldn't let it get to me and YES, YES I know I should never expect people to buy me something but nothing, nothing after such a long time.

I'm being unreasonable to be upset by this aren't I??

No YANBU at all. That's pretty shitty of them.

Yanbu Sad Is there any chance they're getting some delivered to your house instead? I know I'm clutching at straws here....

Similar thing happened to my cousin when she left somewhere last year.

It says a lot more about them than it does you.

Don't let them upset you Flowers

YANBU! What a horrible bunch. Good riddance to them.

It happens, it's definitely a case of who you know. There's usually only a few people who organize stuff like this.

I very much doubt it. They are always given on your last day. I've watched numerous people over the years leave and thats how its always been done.

Not even my own team (worked on another team last night) got me a card. I must be one awful, awful person and not realised it as I always thought I got on with most people.

Did you leave the department to move elsewhere in the company, on the same premises?

Its shitty. It would upset me too.

Sad I think you need to get yourself a treat for being with thoughtless people for so long.

Did everyone definitely know you were leaving that day?

Nope moving to a completely different company.

I remember a thread like this a few years ago and the responses were basically showing that this is horribly horribly common.

lilac yes they knew, they have known for 6 weeks I was leaving so not a sudden departure.

Ynbu. That's extremely shitty of them. Especially when they have bought leaving gifts for others, in the past

There's no minimising it then. They're all shits, and you're better off out of there.

YANBU! I left somewhere I'd worked for five years and I got nothing - no card, pressie, flowers, voucher or anything. Yet a few months previously I had arranged a leaving collection for a lovely bloke who had only worked there for a few months - DVD box set, restaurant voucher and card. Yes, I am still bitter about this.

I am very glad to have left my work life balance is going to be better and my DS will definitely benefit from the change in jobs.

anthony I can't believe it is really common. It is the most horrible feeling. Management didn't even say goodbye to me.

weeboobs I'm sorry you have experienced this too. I once worked in an office temping for 2 months and got a lovely card, flowers and some other bits and bobs. 14 years and I get nothing. Its a nasty world sometimes.

You mention bank shifts. Is it possible that they think you haven't left properly?

I had this.
10 years and not even a fecking card. Utter bunch of cunts.

It was totally a power thing in my case. I was moving on and up way out of my manager's dreamable reach and into a whole new world and the bitch was jealous.

Former colleagues and I had a bloody good night out to celebrate my escape.

That's very strange and it would have upset me too. I've just finished a maternity leave cover of around 9 months and received cards and presents, so nothing after 14 years is horrible!

By "former colleagues" I mean people who left before me who I am still, to this day, great friends with
