To think "X" on work emails are unnecessary ?

Email received today from a lady asking our company for sponsorship...

Please can your company send us lots of £££££
Signed,
Miss Sponsorship
X

I think it's unprofessional & makes her look like a fanny?

Random kisses on the end of texts are bad enough but an email from a business to another business from a lady I've never met & never will?

You wouldn't know me if you walked past me in the street, certainly wouldn't kiss me so why is it appropriate on a work email??

Makes me want to direct her mail right into the junk folder...

Am I just grumpy & BU?

I've never received an X on a work email (and only sent one accidentally..) I'd find that inappropriate.

Maybe she did it by mistake? DH sent a kiss on the end of a text to one of his mates the other day without thinking. Lots of pisstaking ensued.

Good thinking,
I'm going to assume it was a mistake ...
This time !!

If she sent me an unsolicited email asking for sponsorship I would already imagine she was a twat before she added the xx

I was once helping a manager fix his PC. The it department was chatting to us via live chat on the screen talking us through it.

When we had finished I typed 'thank you for your help X' and pressed send. I was mortified. It was a total accident. The manager was howling, it was his account we were on (so the kiss came technical came from him) so at least he found it funny.

there is also this. I run a business and get about 7 of these a day.

It wasn't unsolicited as such !
A small local group who we have sponsored in the past.
Maybe the fact my boss agreed to give her ££££ justified the kiss in her mind...

If it wasn't unsolicited and she is asking for a charity sponsorship maybe she is trying to make it more personal?

It is an email outside standard business communication and, like Phillip, I get these daily so maybe she is trying to make her request personal and not generic?

I think it's fine. People have different personal styles.

Report
myownprivateidaho · 24/08/2016 10:56

Also it clearly wasn't a "work email".

I think it's totally unprofessional. An accident is one thing, but I would never purposely do that.

I can understand it when people do it at the end of a text - by accident. I've done it, felt like a right plonker! Plumber thought it was very funny, thank fully.

But an email? An email asking for funding? Surely you're actually putting some thought & effort into what you are writing?!

"clearly not a work email"

Why would that be??

It certainly wasn't personal.

An email from one organisation to another = a work email.

It's unprofessional and inappropriate unless it's a personal e-mail / text.

But I can see how it might be done by accident if most of her e-mails are to friends.

When we donated to a local group one of the women real life kissed me.

I didn't mind. They were really grateful and it's a great organisation.

Well, I guess your company received it in the course of work, but presumably she wasn't sending it as part of her job.

straight in the spam, if you wouldn't kiss any of your co workers in rl why do it on an email ?

OP is overthinking this.

Some people I work with start their business emails "Dear ....." One of these people (more senior than me) told me that because I just used their first name rather than "Dear" it made me look a bit abrupt.

I still don't use "Dear". It's in the same category as xxxxx

I get emails from members of the public every day, it's a little bit weird when they put kisses in the email.

Personally, I think the term "makes her look like a fanny" is far more embarrassing than a X at the end of an email!

Look like a fanny? A FANNY? Are you actually old enough for 'work emails'?

redshoeblueshoe · 24/08/2016 12:08

blueshoes I must disagree Grin
My supervisor (who I couldn't stand) used to put xx on all her memo's, I thought it was very unprofessional.

I'm not really over thinking.
It's not something I would ever do myself & wondered if I'm just a cold fish & stingy with love or if it really is a bit forward & silly to add pointless kisses to emails.

Yes - I am more than old enough thanks!

I'm still not sure it's an office to office email. It's a charity request. She wasn't placing an order for 20 ballcocks.

Can you sponsor us or donate to our charity X

Is much less dreadful than

May I confirm my order for 20 ballcocks X

In my head anyway.

True!
Maybe it's just me & I need to move with the times.

I don't put kisses on texts either unless I would actually kiss the person in real life.
