AIBU?

to complain about estate agents?

have been treated badly from start to finish - no rental contract given until 2 days before move-in, they have threatened me with not moving in on the right day due to issues with references and even put the phone down on me earlier when i called to complain. When I discussed this with another member of staff, he said I must have done something to "push" this member of staff...

They started referencing ten days after deposit put down, thus only giving themselves a week to sort things. 4/5 references (house-share) all fine, 1 was problematic as short-term job contract. Flatmate has a guarantor but EA have been rubbish at giving the right docs to guarantor.

AIBU to complain as soon as the keys are in my hands. One of my flatmates kindly feels that we should let it go, but I feel patronised and angry at their lack of apologies, blatant rudeness and inability to keep me informed.

they also keep sending passive-aggressive emails blaming any delays on the fact that the references weren't all acceptable (ie the need for extra guarantor documents)... A matter my flatmates and I are working on and surely they must see every day.

One of the best things about home ownership is the fact that I don't have to deal with them anymore.

I have only ever dealt with one decent one and the rest were a bunch of lying, deceitful pricks. Although I got modded once for using a stronger word than that, although MNHQ emailed me to say they agreed! Grin

Don't get me started. We're just about to rent a house while having some work done on our home. Finding anywhere at all has been a real PITA and I have felt as though more than one estate agent is not interested in our business. Flowersfor you. You'll be in soon and hopefully the pressure will be off. FWIW I had a similar nightmare with my mortgage company when I bought my house, so it's not just the agents!

I am going to tell the landlord I think (his first time using them, he has been nothing but reasonable) as it is an expensive property (I am only renting though) and I'm fairly certain he'd be better off taking his custom elsewhere! It so nearly put me off the whole process several times. They are pricks.

I also want to email/ring the head honcho/customer service guy... This is a huge branch of well-known london agencies who are actually supposed to be good! Not the F ones...

They're a massive reputable chain, and there are details on the website of the complaints procedure. Friends have been with them and not had any problems so this is pretty bad.
