At the beach today with ds. It's fairly busy, lots of kids running around.
I am surrounded by people smoking. 2 people behind me are smoking and a woman in front of me. Plus a group of people just down the beach a bit who are all Smoking. It stinks.
I know it's an open space so they are entitled I suppose but it's horrible and there are kids running around etc. You can't help but smell it etc!
Just wish beaches were smoke free zones. Plus all of them are putting the cigarette ends in the sand!
Aibu to be annoyed?!!

Oh FGS.

Let's put all the smokers in a zoo shall we? Or will that count as an 'enclosed space'?

Beaches are big, breezy, open spaces.

If you've chosen such a crowded one that smokers surrounded you that's both astonishing and your choice.

These threads always make me want to smoke in solidarity with the poor, picked-in smokers.

Cigarette ends in the sand totally ruin a trip to the beach for me, so YANBU in the slightest in my opinion. Makes me feel sick.

I agree with the second posters

People are allowed to smoke in wide open spaces

I'd choose a less crowded beach

Just pack up and move down the beach, I doubt very much that the whole place is filled with smokers

TBF blondie, littering is a separate issue that doesn't correlate with smoker status.

Yanbu, why the hell should anyone suffer second hand smoke?! At the beach a few weeks ago, I suffered a man sat next to me..I was there first ..smoking a cigar...awful!

Why don't you just move to somewhere else where people aren't smoking?

Report
Toocold · 12/08/2016 15:07

I bet I can guess where you are!

poor picked-on smokers

Confused

Save your sympathy for their lungs.

OP - annoying but I'm afraid you just have to move.

Blondie you can't enjoy a day at the beach if there's one cigarette butt in the sand? Really? I know it's a bit nasty to leave any kind of litter but I'd think you could move past it and enjoy your day.

It's not that crowded! Just seem to
have had smokers sit near me!
Yes it's an open beach and like I said they are entitled I suppose to smoke.

As for "poor picked on smokers"-don't make me laugh!!!

That's very true. I think I genuinely have some sort of phobia about touching cigarettes and even the boxes (even though both my parents smoked) Blush

I don't think there's much you can do about it, but it is amazing how far the smell drifts. Couldn't spot who was smoking the weed I could smell last time I went...

I hate smoke. Somehow when you're a non smoker, outdoors enjoying some fresh air, the smell is more irritating.

There's no answer really though. It's legal so people will do it. Don't like the stinky vaping things either.

Yanbu smokers seem oblivious. I was walking a good few meters behind a smoker and ended up crossing the road as I hate smell so much, to me it's worse than bo! Apparently on mn iabu as smokers are allowed to not care about their effect on others. By saying it stinks I'm being judgy.

Smoking and littering does correlate. No smoker ever has stubbed out their cigarette in the sand and put the dog end in their pocket Grin

I don't like it either op but there are so many things not to like on a busy beach it wouldn't be top of my list!

I'm an ex smoker and it repulses me now so I can understand your frustration.

I wish it could be banned everywhere, especially places like beaches where lots of children are. It annoys me how people can't seem to get through an hour without considering others a cigarette.

There's always some whiny thread on here by someone who has deliberately say hear a smoker to give themselves something to moan about.

Illegal or inconsiderate smoking I understand the distaste for.

Choosing to sit next to smokers in a large open space and then whinging about it is just peculiar.

It's just an easy group to moan about.

There we again; 'no smoker ever' HmmSmile

Maybe not pocket. That would be odd. But I've seen smokers gather their dog ends in empty bottles or cigarette/match boxes.

My parents both smoke and carry a pocket thing to put their stubbed out ends in so some smokers don't litter.

Haha, love this. So before us non smokers sits down on a beach we should ask around to see if those around us are smokers? Because that's not weird at all!

I used to gather my butts up at the end of a day at the beach and stick them in the bin with the rest of my rubbish.

Me and my group of friends smoke, even if we are in an open space and we stub them out on the ground we always gather up any litter including the cigarette ends!

As if one poster above just complained about the inconsideration of a smoker walking ahead of them? Jeez Confused

blondie me too.

I really don't think people believe me when I say that I genuinely feel ill even thinking about cigarette ends. I'll literally cross the street rather than walk through an area littered with them lest one should touch my shoe, or worse, get stuck on it.
