AIBU?

to think encouraging a child to wee in the street is inappropriate?

I'm upstairs in my house with the windows wide open to air out last nights fish and chips let in the lovely sunshine.
We live on a reasonably busy residential street.
I hear a family walk down the road (think its Mum, friend/sister and son) chatting to each other loudly.
Suddenly I hear the Mum say "right, I need to make you do a wee" (actual words) and then "trousers down".
I glance out the window to see the son (perhaps 4 or 5 years old) in the middle of the pavement with his trousers and pants around his ankles, holding his willy and weeing into a plastic tub the Mum is holding in front of him.
She's encouraging him loudly ending with "that's right. Now shake it. Well done."

I completely understand that children always need to wee at the worst times but AIBU to think in the middle of the street, in plain view with cars driving past and people in their gardens is just a bit off?

There are 2 pubs which are less than 2 mins walk away, as well as plenty of countryside areas to surreptitiously wee in if its an emergency.

I've just realised this makes me sound like a complete gawping gawper when I am, in fact, sitting right by the window and can hear everything and just glanced quickly Blush not twitching the curtains Blush Blush

YANBU

If the kid was 2 years old and was potty training and desperate for a wee (and therefore couldn't hold it) then I could understand it a quick wee down a gutter.

But her coming prepared with a bottle and saying she needs to "make" him wee. Why not just go to the pubs you mention?

After many years on MN, I can only assume SEN

Yanbu, particularly right in front of shops, or a bus stop all of 100 yards from clean public toilets.

Did she need to collect his wee for a sample, I wonder? Either way yanbu as he could at least have snuck down a side street or something. Very odd.

Container is only like a portable potty and a darn sight more practical.

I wouldn't take my into a pub to wee it's not a public toilet.

Yanbu.
If a kid can't make it 2 mins to a tree then either they need to.go back to pull ups ur and about or the parents need to re plan routes they are taking to.ensure that they make adequate stops on the way to areas suitable for relieving ones self.

It's all very well assuming "it's a short lived phase"

But there are ares in my town centre that stink off piss so clearly some people never grow out of Pissing in doorways and bus stations despite there being about a billion pubs and coffee shops....

It used to be more acceptable and I can remember seeing children being held above grids to do a wee. This would have been in the 80s. The container is weird though.

I saw a mum the other day holding her DD out to wee. They were parked in a big layby off a country road, layby was surrounded by trees.

Mum was holding the girl over the road, facing into the traffic, legs akimbo, genitals open to the traffic. I've never seen anything like it before and I hope never to again. I can't imagine what possessed her. Revolting for anyone passing, awful for the child.

What did she do with the plastic tub afterwards?

I think weeing in public is horrible, mind you I don't even like people eating in the street - I'm aware this is a minority view Wink

I have seen a number of threads like this on MN over the last few years.

Is there a pee in a container fetish?
normally when something pops up once or twice it's a poster with a weird fetish.

My DS once had to have an emergency poo. The only thing I had one me was an empty Tupperware. So he pooed in it. Then I put the lid on and put it in my boot.

All the way home I was thinking "if I get stopped by the police, I've got a box of shit in my boot". No idea what I thought the police might do.

It is revolting when their genitals are unnecessarily exposed. The mother I saw could have very easily taken her DD behind the car or into the trees, but she didn't. The child's dignity and privacy was not considered and nor were the feelings of anyone else around. It wasn't the weeing per se that was revolting, although that's not pleasant.

In fairness there are numerous differences between animals and humans.

Urinating and defecating are not for the public view as a general rule for the human race.

Middle of no where sneaky wee behind a bush/tree is one thing.

Middle of the street/car park/shopping centre literally yards from a toilet is another....
