AIBU?

We bought a slow cooker, i'm still learning to use it, and like everything new, you sometimes overdo things and learn next time to adjust the cooking time or tweak the ingredients.

Whenever DH tries something new that doesn't work, or i don't like, i will tell him once, eat what i can and then talk about it afterwards.

I just had a go at some orange chicken, and i admit it was overdone, but it was still edible, i ate it with no problem.

He just sat down with it, asked 5 times if something was burning, spat out the first mouthful, then has sat picking over it and with every single forkful complained it burned, pointe out where its burned, pulled faces, made shitty little comments.

I feel like telling him to go fuck himself. i'm absolutely fucking fuming with him.

i ought to add this is on top of me doing sunday dinner in it on Sunday and his spending the entire meal doing the same thing because he didn't like how the potatoes turned out.

YANBU. But you are both hungry (or were) - no one is at their best when they are hungry Grin

Don't cook for him tomorrow, when he asks why there's none for him tell him it's for being a knob yesterday

What is orange chicken? (I used to call salmon pink chicken so the girls ate it but suspect this is not the case with your orange chicken).....

PaintYourWagon155 · 04/08/2016 17:23

The simple response would be to stop cooking for him. He sounds like a knob.

Don't cook for him again - ungrateful dick

Why are you cooking for him?

The answer to the problem is staring you in the face.

My DP slagged off my cooking about a year ago.

I haven't cooked for him since.

He buys himself ready meals now and occassionally mentions my shepard's pie with a longing look in his eye.

If your husband isn't grateful for what you do for him then stop doing it.

Wow sounds like you're married to a toddler , a rude one at that !

I would be pissed too. I get this a lot. It drives me insane. DP doesn't think anything of saying exactly how much he hates certain dinners I make. There's cereal in the cupboard if he's hungry later!!

On another note, potatoes for Sunday dinner in the s/c. Are they like boiled potatoes then? With no skin? I've never tried to make a Sunday dinner in the s/c but sounds interesting!

Get the airplane spoon out and when he asks you WTF you are doing explain that if he is going to act like a child, you will treat him like a child.

He can cook from now on. Tell him you can't possibly be as good as him. I'd give it a week before he asks you to take over.

of course he shouldnt have to eat something he doesnt like, but there was no need for him to be rude about it

DH is sometimes not happy with dinner, but knows better than to say anything much. If I were you I'd scrape it into the bin when he started complaining.

Mind you having said that I gave up using the slow cooker, everything tasted and looked the same from it and the house always had a gloopy fug to it when I came back in the evening.

DH and I are both honest when we don't like a meal as otherwise it may get cooked again and again and it gets harder to discuss.
We don't however belittle the others efforts and behave like children.

I've cooked some horrors in the SC but there's a world of difference to the behaviour you're describing and someone saying politely 'I'm sorry but I don't like this very much'

I'd go on Fish Finger strike. Nothing but fish fingers and oven chips for a while...

I wouldn't to be brutally honest but I've threatened it in the past

Very rude. Besides anything else, I get irrationally enraged when someone insults a meal that someone else at the table is eating.

Let him eat cake!

I'm trying to work out how you over cook something in the slow cooker...?

Report

Another vote to stop cooking for him.

Ive had kitchen mishaps in the past, dp has always eaten the food, insisted the food was edible (if it wasn't great) & always been kind.
I'm my own worst critic, dp will not be rude about my efforts, to be fair I've never made anything inedible.

Perhaps next time your 'D'H cooks something less than Mitchelin star quality you should make gagging noises and tut and sigh and keep asking him what is burning.

U have got the perfect excuse. I had similar, although not as bad, behaviour from my DH and my response - my parents didn't bring me up to be ur chief cook and bottle washer. U r welcome to cook. Fortunately or unfortunately for me, depending on how one sees it, my DH is a great cook. And so took up getting our dinners. While it started out to show me that he could do better, I was more than happy for him to take over cooking. End of story the feeling of victory was shortlived. After couple of weeks, a large bouquet delivered at work and an expensive night out later, he apologised and promised to behave. He now knows my views on 'constructive criticism' and the comments are definitely milder. What u need is tactic MaddyHatter! :)

In this house we are honest with each other about how our meals turnout.

I don't think your dh should have ate it if it was so bad.

I think yabu to be so furious and suppose there's a back story

I hate almost everything out of the slow cooker, so I sympathise. If it was the one with marmalade in, YABU...sorry....

What a baby! On another note, someone mentioned fish fingers and oven chips..... now I'm hungry!
