To have shouted at this person?

I feel quite guilty. I've had a rather shit day. Dh and I are struggling atm as I'm off work atm and I only get SSP, thankfully Dh is the higher earner (although he only earns 15k pa after tax) so we can survive, but what's thrown it all sideways is I've just found out I'm pregnant (today) bit of backstory so you can see why I'm in a rather impressive sulk.
I was going to the supermarket and when walking across the car park a woman blocked my path with a trolley. In her defence I wasn't really looking where I was going. Skirted around the trolley apologising. Unsure if relevant. Grabbed a trolley and went in store. Through several aisles this woman was in front of me. Each time she suddenly stopped and started texting. Three times out of about 7 I had to say excuse me. Each time she took over a minute to pull her trolley to the side The aisles are very narrow, big enough to get two smaller trolleys down side by side but not the bigger ones, she had a large one I had a small one, therefore I couldn't get around her without her pushing her trolley right to the side. Finally as I was heading toward the end of an aisle to check out she did it again, I ended up sort of impaled on the handle of my trolley and my knee jerk reaction to this was to shout "get your head out of your fucking phone before you cause someone or yourself a bloody mischief!" Blush feeling rather ashamed. Was I being unreasonable?

Well done I am fucked off by entitled phone using so and do's everywhere now. Absolutely no awareness of other people. To what? Probably to click like on some sodding nonsense meme about how society is going to pot?

You were rude to have shouted and sworn at her like that, it happens though, sometimes we have shit days and take it out on annoying bystanders. Don't dwell on it too much Flowers

Well you probably shouldn't have swore, but she sounds really fucking annoying Grin
Did she respond?

It's not unreasonable. In a perfect world, you would have omitted "fucking". But don't feel bad. This lady will, I hope, take more care in future and therefore avoid harming someone else, who might be vulnerable and suffer real harm.

I save my shopping list on my phone so I would have been looking at it a lot in a shop, although I would have shifted my trolley faster (not that I am a blocker anyway). I'm on the fence with this one!

Congrats on your news OP!

She glared at me and walked down the aisle away from me (which I was happy about because then I was able to get to the check out)

I have a rule, I'll say excuse me 3 times, then after that I'll just say move, loudly. Anything after that and I probably would have exploded too OP. Fuck her and her rudeness, you were quite bloody right!

myownprivateidaho · 02/08/2016 17:45

Yeah, unreasonable and rude and not the way to deal with behaviour you don't like but not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

OreosAreTasty · 02/08/2016 17:46

Ayeok- think I'll borrow that rule! Although most tend to only block your path once or twice.
I've also realised I made a typo.
When I said "I had to say excuse me 3 times out of 7" I mean 3 times out of 7 I had to say it more than once.
Doesn't make much difference though. I'll accept I was reasonably rude then. (Was expecting a flaming)

I got what you meant OP, I actually think you were restrained until the point you weren't. I also think that pig ignorant arse holes don't give a shit about other people and sometimes a shock is what makes them sit up and take notice.

I would have loaded her trolley with random items every time she stopped and wasn't paying attention.

Yanbu though.

This annoying person could have been you on another day; stressed to the max with financial issues and just found out you're pregnant so texting your partner/Mum/friend about it and they're texting back and each time you stop to reply and don't pay too much attention to the fact you're in someone's way. You're definitely being annoying and thoughtless and inconveniencing the person behind you but that doesn't register because your mind is a mess right now.

And then you get shouted and sworn at. Not because you've been horrible or offensive but just a bit annoying.

It's really possible to go around not shouting and swearing at people no matter how shit your day is. They might be an absolute arse or they might be having an even shitter day than you.

Best of luck though OP, I do understand why you felt so stressed.

If she kept pulling her trolley to the side, to let you pass (albeit that it took her "over a minute to pull her trolley to the side" ) how come you kept ending up behind her again?

Is it possible that, having managed to overtake her, you then started to dawdle slightly further up the aisle and she had to negotiate her way past you?

If so, YABU not once, but twice. Once for recreating the situation after the first time you past her, and again for being unnecessarily rude to her.

Rude, yes.

And yet I applaud you.

It's maddening how thoughtless people can be in the supermarket aisles!!
