AIBU?

Veggie wedding question

We are currently mid last minute wedding plans. In the evening we are having a 7 piece buffet for guests. Day guests will have had 3 course dinner but for evening guests this will be their only food. We have a choice of about 20 delicious items but cannot come to a decision about how many items out of the 7 should be veggie. Partner thinks 2 out of 7 should be veggie. I would rather 3 or 4 veggie items as 2 items of food e.g. a couple of veggie samosas and a Halloumi skewer is not enough for vegetarians and meat eaters will surely eat veggies foods too. He is a big meat eater and is making a fuss. There are likely to be about 10 vegetarians out of 150 guests. AIBU?

Veggie here - definitely 3 or 4 at least. Meat eaters will eat whatever they fancy and won't think of the vegetarians. Any less than 3 items and they'll go hungry.

More recently merrier. Meat eaters do eat vegetables.

As a vegetarian, I'd be very pleased if I could eat three out of seven choices. That would also give you the option of at least one vegan choice.

As a veggie I think you sound lovely. Meat eaters can eat everything, while a veggie who is underfed will remember that wedding and the food in a more negative way. Why not compromise and go for 3 veggie items? I'd be really happy with this. Also just offer lots of stodge ie. bread sticks/French bread that everyone can fill up on meat eater or veggie.

More the merrier. Meaties always scoff all the veggie food anyway, the greedy bastards.

If there are only 2 out of 7 veggie items then I guarantee you the meat eaters will scoff them all and the veggie guests will go home hungry. If he's happy to have hungry guests that's his call. I would personally, if he is really insistent, see if I could set up some separate plates of veggie food and set them aside and mark them with the guests' names.

I agree 3-4/7 sounds fair. And the meat eaters always dig in from the veggies.

If you have fewer veggies would have to go first but likely their on different tables so would be a bit odd. I would go for more.

Going by historic threads on here, the vegetarian food will be eaten by the omnivores as well as 'their' food. Either have more veggie food or let the veggies at the buffet first.

As many as possible. I say this as a meat eater.

I'd do four veggie and three meat. Mainly as the meat eaters will scoff the veggie stuff too and you'll be left with hangry veggies!

Not a wedding, but a buffet at work once.. ten people, two veggies. But then a third veggie had to come to the meeting. There then wasn't enough for the third veggie as the meat eaters don't think not to eat the last cheese sandwich!

veggies first, or let them have their own table
meat eaters will DEFFO eat our lovely samosas, halloumi etc otherwise

4 veggie, 3 meat. Or even 5/2 towards veggie. Meat eater but love veggie buffet food.

Yep, i was going to say 4 or even 5 veggie out of the 7.

Meat eater myself, but yes, the veggie options will get eaten by everyone.

You know the last time this came up a horde of militant veggies came along and told us that meat eaters should stand back while the veggies went first, and that meat eaters shouldn't touch the salads as they were meant for the vegetarians, and they should only eat the meat!

It was as hilarious as it was embarrassing.

What do you mean by 7 piece but choice of 20?

That's because vegetarians are often left with bugger all to eat if the meat eaters full their plates with the veggie food freedom. It's nothing to do with being militant.

I am a meat eater, but I am very unlikely to eat meat at a function like a wedding;. I would do 5 veggie choices and 2 meat choices.

I'd do 4-5 veggie as well (I'm a meat eater).

The ones I'm talking about were militant! They pretty much suggested going around a party calling for vegetarians, and getting them to stake out dishes on the buffet that meat eater couldn't touch. As a vegetarian I'd be mortified! Plus if there isn't enough salad for everyone, thats the caterers fault, not the other guests.

Thanks for the replies!! Freedom, I mean there are 20 food options from the venue and we chose 7 to serve. I knew you'd all agree. I'm gonna push for 4 veggie. The veggie options look delicious and even though I'm a meat eater I'd definitely go for a lot of them first. It's an open buffet so it will just be first come first served. I'll give the veggies a lil heads up ;)

I'd do 3-4. As PP have said, carnies can eat anything, vegetarians are limited if you don't offer much.

I have a feeling a lot more items are vegetarian than 7 pieces. Is there bread, salad, veggie dessert, in addition to those 7 pieces??

Deffo 4. So annoying when all you get as a veggie is a dish of greasy roasted veg and some bread.
