I'm looking for a novel way to announce my pregnancy to my parents( this will be to my parents only, not a cringey facebook thing), it will be their 15th grandbaby. My husband thinks I'm crazy and suffering with pregnancy hormones, thinks we should just announce it as we did the first time, by just telling them, aibu to want to do something a bit special ? or is all this new announcement craze a bot ott? it is very likely to be their last grandchild I was hoping to buy some blank/plain Russian/stacking dolls, have them painted with a name of each child on each doll, leaving the 15th unpainted, but I don't seem to be able to find this amount of dolls anywhere, and I'm worried that they are likely to be a bit thin & cheap, and split easily, another idea I have to get 15 horseshoes decorated in the same way, then find some way displaying them together ??? has anyone else got any better suggestions please ?

A Facebook announcement is cringy but you want to paint 15 Russian dolls?! Sounds totally bonkers but it's your pregnancy so announce it however you see fit.

A tee shirt with 'your next grandchild growing in here' printed /hand written on it - that you reveal by removing your cardi - as you all sit out in the garden ! See how long it takes for them to notice !!!

Sorry, that wasn't very helpful. How about a photo album with a scan pic as the last page?

Sorry but I think you are being ott. I'm sure they'll be thrilled that another grandchild is on the way but the whole 'announcement' idea just leaves me cold (this goes for all kind of pregnancy announcements - including the naff FB pictures of baby shoes alongside the adults shoes...I am not just singling out your idea!!)

Scan picture, on a mug. Other side says, "thanks for the DNA, look what I did with it".

I really don't think most people would like 15 horse shoes in their house, sorry.

Flowers congrats.

Could you hire a small aircraft to pull a banner over their garden?

my in laws have about 20 gc and 10 ggc, sorry, but it's a case of 'so and so is expecting - again,' reply 'that's lovely news what are we having for tea ?' but in a normal family do what makes you happy.

What on earth would someone do with 15 horseshoes? Are they descended from bargees or travellers? In that case I suppose it is traditional but for most people the trouble with sentimental stuff is that it is a gift with strings- you cant just bin in and so you keep it out of a sense of obligation.

15 horse shoes is a heavy (literally) burden to give as a gift.

Agree with ironrooster. However I would also arrange a marching brass band to play 'congratulations' Anything less would just be a let down.

Hmm, it's not really my thing either - but the Russian dolls are a pretty good idea.
There are 2p piece sets in Ebay for ~£50, or ~£25 if you want to paint your own. (You'd have to put the names on yourself in either case). Could you get a larger set and leave out some of the smaller ones. Plus then you have spares in case there's another gc. Grin

I think the 15 pics followed by a scan pic is the best idea.. doesnt sound like its going to be a shock to them... congratulations too. :)

Lie on your back with your chuff in the air. Stick a voice recorder up there saying ' here I am'. Play it to them. If that doesn't leave them amazed and astounded I'll eat my hat.

the picture book is great, but I already did that a few years back, it has a pic of all of my family on the front, with all the grandchildren having a page on the inside, its a bit of a joke in our family, every time i take a new family pic, some one has another baby, god, no I don't plan on painting anything myself, I have a good artist friend, its my parents big wedding anniversary coming up, and I wanted to give them something as a gift, my mum likes Russian dolls, yes they live close to a river, so they have some horseshoes/jugs decorated like barge stuff, was thinking of maybe stringing them together somehow, and presenting them in a box ??
