To think we would be safer if all countries in European Free Trade area had strict gun laws

I think of the recent atrocity in Munich. How did the 18 year old murderer get hold of the guns and ammunition? I believe Germany has strict gun laws, but it's easier to get a gun in other parts of Europe. Lack of boarder controls makes a mockery of gun laws.

The EU is in the process of introducing stricter regulations on weapons, as well as encouraging countries with weaker gun laws to tighten them.

But do you think it would be feasible to patrols all the borders in Europe, anyhow, including those with non-EFTA countries?

The British Army was controlling the NI/Ireland border and they didn't manage to stop weapons and explosives getting through. Yet this border is tiny relative to all the EFTA country borders that would have to be controlled.

BTW strict gun laws and being outside Schengen didn't stop Jo Cox's killer getting hold of weapons.

According to the news this morning Germany does have strict laws. Including a health test.

This gun was probably obtained illegally. Having stricter laws about who can get a gun legally would have no impact on illegal weapons trade.

If illegal weapons trade was easy to stop, it wouldn't be happening. Yet happens in every country in the world.
