Go! It's all good experience. Better to try and maybe succeed than not try at all and definitely not get it. Deep breaths and go get 'em!

My advice would be don't cancel it. An interview can be good experience and practice for other interviews in future. Read the job spec and have a think about what questions they could ask based on that and how you might answer them. Make some rough notes of your answers. You won't know the questions exactly but giving the potential subjects some thought will help.

Take your time. Remember to breathe. If you forget the question just ask them to repeat it. They won't mind!

Plan something nice for yourself afterwards. Even if it's just half an hour in a coffee shop with a cappuccino and a big piece of cake!

Also think of anything you want to ask them about the role!

Don't cancel it!! Everyone is nervous at interviews. It would be strange if you weren't nervous. It will be great practise even if you aren't successful.

Good luck!

Thank you! I own nothing smart though... Is a blouse and leggings okay? It isn't a posh job at all...?

Not leggings, too casual for everything. Just a blouse or smart t-shirt /top and plain black trousers will do

I don't have trousers... This is for a supermarket btw

Have you got a dress and a cardigan? Or a skirt to wear with the blouse? Maybe borrow from a friend?

The lady on the phone said that it's a couple of hours and I should wear something suitable for the shop floor test thing...

If you really have nothing but leggings then just make sure that rest of you is neat and smart. Tidy hair and clean shoes. Neat make up but not too much

ShellyF · 21/07/2016 23:49

Please don't wear leggings with a blouse
If you must ever leggings do you have a tunic/dress you could wear with it?I interview quite a lot and first impressions really do count.

Make sure your shoes arent too high in that case as you could be filling shelves and you need something comfy but smart

I went for my first job interview a couple of weeks ago - first time in eight years so I know how nerve wracking it can be! Don't cancel, just go and do the best you can.

Previous poster is right too, you should treat yourself afterwards! Doing an interview when you're super nervous is an achievement in itself!

Good luck Smile

Blouse and trousers/skirt. Leggings are too casual.

You'll be fine honestly. Take a bottle of nice water to combat dry mouth. Be normal, be yourself. It'll be a nice job with friendly folk.

Do not cancel.
Whatever you wear, (ideally I'd say smart, trousers and shirt or a smart dress), make sure its pristine. Even if nothing comes of it, the experience is good.
Good luck, but please don't cancel.

I nearly cancelled a while back and ended up getting the job, which was a huge surprise. Good luck!

Don't let it put you off going.
Honestly.
Turn up looking tidy, smelling fresh, clean clothes and a big confident smile.
Please don't let 'not havin a suit' put you off going.
You've got an interview. Many people won't have been given one so you're already a step further than others.

Well done for getting the interview! Are you able to nip to a charity shop early in the morning and buy a smart skirt/dress or trousers?

Report
seven201 · 22/07/2016 00:14

Could you borrow a pair of trousers or a skirt off a friend? I really don't think you should go in leggings. Can you afford to buy some
Primark trousers? Even if you don't get his job you'll need trousers for the next interview. You definitely shouldn't cancel, it's all practice.

To be honest, I'm really self conscious so I wouldn't be happy in trousers, which is why I don't own any Sad

Thank you for the nice words!

She spoke to me on the phone and I didn't know what a word meant SadAngry

A suit or a smart dress would not be suitable for the shop floor test by the sound of it - so don't panic.
Look neat, clean and tidy.
Smile, make eye contact. Say something (anything) sooner rather than later, a comment about the weather or something, it will make talking during the interview easier.
Enjoy yourself as much as possible - it will come across to your interviewers.
Good luck Flowers

Don't worry if you don't understand something - ask them to repeat the question or clarify what they want you to do. Interviewers like people who ask relevant questions and clarify understanding - it is a good communication skill.

I think leggings are fine for a trial on the shop floor. Is it the kind of job where you wear uniform overalls in any case? Seems fine to me.

Do go, you will only delay nerves if you don't. See it as a trial run to get you back into it. You might well get it anyway! I'm rooting for you Flowers

A job interview you don't go for is a job you definitely won't get. So go and you just might! Good luck!
