AIBU?

To find it weird that people still give Michael Jackson Godlike status??

Is it just me? They have now found pornographic images of young boys at his home yet people still talk about him as if he is so great. One particular person I know gets her son to do his MJ dancing and he wears his hat everywhere and it makes me feel ill. I don't think people would find this acceptable if it was about Gary Glitter, would they?? I don't get it, can anyone enlighten me?

I don't get it either. I was a big fan of Michael Jackson and I do still love his music. I always hoped that the allegations were untrue and that he was just a damaged man with no understanding of appropriate adult/child relationships. Very naive of me.

It now seems as though there is concrete evidence of him being a child abuser and it all ends there. He abused children. I feel pity for the man for his fucked up childhood but he then fucked up the lives of other kids and that, in my opinion, is unforgiveable.

YADNBU.
I don't know or care enough to research whether or not the allegations are true but I know everyone slated him for it (rightly so if they were true), his music no longer aired on most major channels/stations and he was dragged through the mud and disgraced (Again, rightly so if true)
BUT. the second he karked it everyone jumps up and down about how he's the king of pop...
no.
just.
no.

YANBU. He was a pedophile, I think we all know that now. I was never really a big fan of him and never got the personality cult that surrounded him with his downright bonkers fans.

Really what makes him any different to Gary Glitter?

Is the proof real though?

I mean is the 'proof' real

I think we have to assume that enough evidence has been found to say that he was a paedophile.

I enjoy his music (pre 1990 only though) but I think he deserves the full Savile/Gary Glitter treatment if he's a proven paedophile ie no television footage, no radio etc.

His fans are unusually protective. It's very specific to him and i've never worked it out. They show up on the comments of every article about him, proclaiming his innocence.

Well at least there are some others in agreement. I wonder what these kids who dance to Michael Jackson songs will think when they realise their parents had them dancing around to songs by a paedophile Confused

What was the proof? I thought they
Were just olden day art pics of naked men?
I also thought one of the boys he abused apparently admitted his dad made him lie.

I think he was a very messed up man. I wonder if his kids will ever speak about their childhood.

I don't really get the rewriting of history.
I loved Michael Jacksons music in the 70s and early 80s. He turned out to be seriously damaged and an abuser. It's doesn't stop me liking the songs of my childhood.

I grew up to the sound of Gary Glitter. I can't help still liking those songs and I feel the same about MJ. No, I don't dance around the house to their hits and no, I don't buy their albums but it's kind of weird if those songs form an important part of your memories - you can't just wipe that.

YANBU! I was a massive fan, went to pieces when he died, always believed that the allegations against him were false. As a previous poster said, I always felt that he was very damaged from his own awful childhood, and was a naive person who wasn't able to maintain normal relationships with children and overstepped boundaries in an innocent way. Feel very foolish now, admitting this! As others have said, I don't know why he's not been taken off the airwaves in the same way as Gary Glitter, Rolf Harris, that guy from Lostprophets, etc now this new evidence has surfaced.

Either he's a hoarder of junk and some dodgy art or he's a collector of porn with inappropriate judgement/impulses
Bottom line: would any of you have been happy with your dc sharing a bed with the guy?
I wouldn't. Even without the rumours. With the rumours, not a bleeding chance.

I've never liked him since he paid off his accusors

Let me start off by starting I'm not particularly a MJ fan, although I like some of his songs.
This is what I just don't get though. He supposedly paid off his accusers.
What in the hell kind of "parent" would let themselves be bought off?! If I thought anyone had touched my kids (it makes me feel sick just typing that) no amount of money could pay me off. I'd want to see them pay.
It makes me feel physically ill to think a parent would allow themselves to be kept quiet if enough money was thrown at them.
Maybe I'm naïve, I don't know. Whatever.

I don't quite understand why the link is made between the talent of the artist and the behaviour of the man. I can hold the two quite separately in my head and admire one while abhoring the other.

I understand that the idea of his estate receiving royalties would be galling for anyone who may have been hurt by him though, so perhaps that's why there is particular outrage against recording artists, etc.

I'm pretty certain he was a paedophile but if you start insisting that there is a sort of morality about expunging anything connected with people who are subsequently found to be abusers where do you stop?
Half the 70s Rock gods were 'hanging out with underage groupies' which makes them paedophiles in my book. Chris Langham had images of child abuse on his computer - should I stop watching the thick of it? The guy who plays Puckerman in Glee - do I stop my DD watching Glee?
Society is littered with paedophiles.

Michael Jackson's not here anymore, so anything said about him now isn't libellous as you can't libel the dead.

I couldn't agree more. Fantastic music. You couldn't take that away from him, but. That's it.

As to his music, that's always going to be a difficult one. I loved GG's rock n roll part two (used in the full monty). I liked Jackson's Smooth criminal/dirty Diana/they don't care about us/say say say. I don't go out of my way to play them but nor do I switch them off if they come on the radio. But I didn't buy his stuff when he died nor Prince nor Bowie. I always think that's kind of weird: if you were a genuine e fan you'd have bought them at the time of release/have them in your collection already?
I don't need to boycott Woody Allen or Roman Polanski films as they are not my bag anyway.
