I've heard that it's possible to make a bit of extra cash by filling in online surveys

Any of you do this? Are there any good websites I can join to get started?

I do Pinecone Research surveys but it's not really income - I save up credits and swap for a Debenham's voucher at the end of the year (there are lots of other options)

I used to read MSE where people did surveys and basically you make very little from them. You would have to do thousands to make any real money. Don't waste your time.

If you join YouGov, and avoid their "prize draw" surveys, and make sure you bank your points rather than put them into the prize draw, you can make, oooo, £50 every 18 months.

I've used Populus Live before, but it was so bloody time consuming. And boring. I made £50 in about 9 months, and they find really spurious reasons to say you've been disqualified from a survey after completing it (usually the higher paid ones, funny that) by saying one answer didn't tally with a previous answer or whatever.

If you've got a lot of time on your hands, give it a try, but I think you have to be quite keen if you want to make any amount of money.

I signed up to one through Sainburys and you get Nectar points so not actual cash but if I do fill in the ones I get sent I get about £5 a month in points and save them up for christmas. It passes the time when I'm commuting too.

Yeah, I have a YouGov account. I reckon it took me a year to get £50. But still, £50 is not to be sniffed at.

I also do GFK TV surveys. They pay you in shopping vouchers won in draws, but I reckon I've had about £50 of them in 9 months.

I used to do pinecone and Shopandscan (bit more involved than a survey, scanning receipts) for vouchers and they really helped when I was between jobs.

You have to be invited to Pinecone, you can't just sign up and it is one of the best paid ones.

I do YouGov (just had my first £50, took ages) and Panelbase. I get screened out of a lot but over all I have made £99. Currently got £59 that I am about to cash.

I also get cashbook through Quidco. If you are buying things like insurance, mobile contracts and stuff you can get a good whack. I got £90 cashbook on a mobile contract once.

You can't make proper money as earnings but I don't mind doing it for a bit extra now and again.

I do yougov - like someone else I don't bother with the prize draws. £50 about every 10 months (i.e 50p a survey). They don't come up very often but they don't screen out.

onepoll are quick, 10 or 15p a go and if they do screen out, it is quick. I gave up on Valued Opinions because they tend to screen out most of the way through, so you do work for no money. Occasionally log in to viewsbank but not really worth the effort now although I've done quite well with online mystery shopping in the past.

claim the cash as soon as you can, you never know when this lot will go bust.

whatusersdo pays £8 a website test, at about 10 mins work that is good. But you have to catch them quickly and they also don't come up often.

as I am probably the only person in the UK stupid enough to do as you are supposed to do and declare the income, I can tell you that I made just under £200 last year. Every little helps. :-)

I tried this when we were on our uppers a couple of years ago. Basically I sat in front of the PC for what seemed like hours only to be told at the end I wasn't "suitable" for this survey and got binned after wasting loads of my time. Even if you're accepted to take part, you make pennies. I wouldn't bother.

As discussed, you're not going to make "proper" money, but I use YouGov and usually get £50 every 9-12 months. I just withdraw it when we go on holiday.

Same with my cashback earnings (quidco), which I find a better source of income. You just need to get into the habit or remembering to use it every time you buy anything online.

I do swagbucks, you gov and a few others. It takes time and you earn per hour far less than the minimum wage.

I have been doing them for about 18 months now and I have made £1120 so far. The money has mostly been in Amazon vouchers.

YouGov is defiantly the best as you are never screened out, although earning speed is slow.

Ive done plenty of survey sites. Ipsos is the one I can remember most though. Like PP have said you dont get a lot from them. Its certainly not a way to get rich or make any real money. I got bored of doing them too. Sometimes you could spend a good 5 mins on one only to be told that you do not meet the criteria.

I dont bother anymore.

Though after a while you can get asked to do product tests which I like because you tend to keep the products. Though most of my tests have come through Mumsnet.

I have been doing Yougov for a year - am halfway to £50 - but I will admit i don't do everyone I get sent through.

Nectar Canvass - I started but got fed up of being not required for every single survey they invited me to - poorly set up if you ask me.

I was invited to join shopandscan, we are on about £120 worth of vouchers currently, we scan all our shopping, send receipts and also now do a weekly Food on the Go survey. I get odd questionnaire requests from them as well. Seems to make more money quickly but still this is after about 10 months.

I don't seem to tick the boxes enough to make loads of pennies.

I have read threads on MSE and someone said 'oh I just did 10 nectar canvass surveys so I have enough to go and buy some xxx' so I thought oh - might be worth a shot - I reckon I qualify for about 20% of those I get sent.

I did them from July 2014 to pay for Christmas, which it mostly did as I took everything in Amazon vouchers. I'd go on an hour or so a night when the kids were sleeping and there were about 5 I stuck to. I managed to make around £900 but was lucky getting to test products (ghd was £100 alone) but it's tedious and I wouldn't do it again!

It pays well, well below minimum wage. It's fine if you enjoy doing surveys, and people with children are eligible for many more than people without, but if you NEED money you're better off doing nearly anything else: evening cleaning, taking in ironing, bar work, waitressing, whatever work you can get.

Panelbase, I-say, valued Opinions, Nectar Canvass, Shopper thoughts - I do them all, I am very quick now, lots of practice and probably make around £100 a month in a combination of cash/vouchers and nectar points. I fit in about 15 minutes a day when I am cooking and I find it worthwhile but I know a lot of people struggle to make anything.

Re having to be invited to join Pinecone - not strictly the case. If you sign up to the Free Postcode Lottery they sometimes have tranches of Pinecone spaces up for grabs which is how I got mine. Never won the Postcode Lottery though and not holding my breath on that one either
