AIBU?

AIBU -accidently locked family out 😳

Came home, found DP keys on the outside of the front door. Handed them to him.

Quick discussion, I would gather some money (day before pay day - had to raid piggy banks). Then pop to shop for essentials for tea. He would take DC's to park. Just got back, they have been locked out!

Apparently this is my fault for not 'checking' he had his keys. Just found his mobile in the kitchen also.

AIBU to have to check DP is capable of being an adult and taking the keys (which I had handed him!). He is pissed off with me and I'm not best impressed with him!!

Can't really understand this - he is annoyed with you because he forgot his keys? Having left them in the outside of the door?

Does he need a brain transplant?

He's angry with you?

Is he mad?

Yes I think he is! He is now saying I did not expressly tell him I was going to the shop. Hmmm why else was I gathering money....

Also he had left his keys (after I had given them back to him) on the top shelf - approx 5ft 11" in the lounge.
I am 5' 6" and checked the key cupboard (yes we have one!) on my way out. I wouldn't have seen his keys as I AM TOO SHORT!!!

Seriously I give in, I have a man child.

Did he check that you had your keys!? Unlikely! Yanbu! He is a grown adult. If you weren't they would he have checked!? Probably - because he is an adult and responsible for his own actions!

Not helped by oldest dc needing a pee whilst at the park. He also moaned that it had been hard work (they had been out for an hour).
He is now resting whilst I cook tea for 4. After getting in from work at 6pm. What a tit.

I was at the shop and had locked the front door when I left as I assumed he had his key with him when he took the DC's to the park.

Therefore I locked his keys inside the house, with them already at the park.

AWWW! Poor little princess forgot his keys and decided it was someone else's fault.

Piss off.

OP. He is an adult. He may not act like it but he is responsible for himself. You are not his mummy. I would tear a strip off him for that.

Er I think you need to have a patronising chat with him about what's going on. Lots of sidehead "I'm worried about you" action. Because he absolutely can't get away with this kind of shit.

Time for you to draw a line in the sand - this sort of behaviour would drive me up the wall.

Oh believe me he won't get away with it. He used to do the whole "I've done your dishes" etc.

I did the same back to him, then 'forgot' to wash his underwear after he announced he couldn't work a washing machine. Seriously he had his own house and managed before me!

His first line of defence is blame someone else and it pisses me off!

Will try the patronising chat. Maybe I could suggest life management classes? Smile

Next time he comes out of the bathroom ask if he managed to wipe his backside.

Tell him you're just checking.

Oh-I get it. He left them in the door. You came home, took them and gave them to him. He left the house, you left the house and locked up but he hadn't taken his keys!

It's been a long day! I was confused by the fact the DH had done not one, but TWO stupid things.

For this confusion alone, YANBU and he needs to be punished!!

I'd be tempted to act like his mum if he's going to to treat you like it. Tell him his keys are confiscated until he's learnt how to be responsible for them. Grin
