I set a rice pud going in the slow cooker this morning. I thought what the hell, rice pudding for dinner, that'll be fine.

Apparently I am seven shades of wrong. Rice pudding is only pudding and it is ridiculous to think it's acceptable for dinner.

What do you lot think?

I mean, I'm still serving it for dinner, even if you all shout at me. grin I'm just curious.

FenellaFerranti Thu 14-Jul-16 15:50:12

For pudding or for your main course?!

QuestionableMouse Thu 14-Jul-16 15:50:14

I'd love rice pud for dinner.

Joolsy Thu 14-Jul-16 15:50:22

I'd be mighty peed off if someone gave me that for dinner, so YABU. The clue is the 'pudding' in rice pudding

SocksRock Thu 14-Jul-16 15:50:38

do you do mail order?

There is no wrong time to eat rice pudding, especially if its home made...

Creatureofthenight Thu 14-Jul-16 15:50:50

I have eaten cold rice pudding for dinner on a really hot summer evening.
If my mum made rice pudding on a Saturday we ate it for lunch. Never really had it as a pudding!

grin derbyshire. 6pm. there's tonnes.

I play Extreme Slow Cooker.

It's touching the very top right now.

It's the most excitement I've had since the Overfilled Cheese Toastie incident last month.

There is never a wrong time to eat rice pudding. Plenty of nutmeg though!

Arfarfanarf Thu 14-Jul-16 15:52:18

for the main course.

We only do one course meals in this house.

I'm a horrible mother, you see. grin

NavyandWhite Thu 14-Jul-16 15:52:44

For main? shock

Tiggeryoubastard Thu 14-Jul-16 15:52:45

No. You don't have pudding for dinner. Though if you really want it it's up to you, just don't serve it to I expecting guests.

FuzzyOwl Thu 14-Jul-16 15:53:19

I've no chance of making it to Derbyshire for 6pm but would be there if you were closer! I don't think there is ever a wrong time to serve hot rice pudding. grin

Tiggeryoubastard Thu 14-Jul-16 15:53:19

I expecting? Unsuspecting.

peaceloveandtwirlywoos Thu 14-Jul-16 15:53:21

You are serving pudding for dinner. You are the opposite of a horrible mother envy

NavyandWhite Thu 14-Jul-16 15:54:22

I'm just laughing to myself thinking about the faces of DH and DC's if I served up rice pudding for dinner!

If you can get away with it then why not!

LunaLoveg00d Thu 14-Jul-16 15:54:25

Could you bung a load of veg in and pass it off as risotto?

Beezles Thu 14-Jul-16 15:55:51

Perfect for dinner! But I should add that when I was most skint I gave my kids popcorn sandwiches for dinner so I'm no Delia....

sue51 Thu 14-Jul-16 15:59:18

My DDs used to love rice pudding for breakfast on a cold winter morning. I love it with spices and sultanas. Not sure about having it for dinner but I'm kind of craving it now.

diddl Thu 14-Jul-16 15:59:53

It's a thing here in Germany!

Go for it!

SteviebunsBottrittrundle Thu 14-Jul-16 15:59:54

I'd be gutted if I got pudding for a main course! I prefer savoury and would eat a second savoury dish after my main course if it was socially acceptable.

SestraClone Thu 14-Jul-16 16:00:47

We do soup & pudding nights, as we don't generally eat pudding. Open a tin of soup grin

MagnifiMad Thu 14-Jul-16 16:03:11

I would like the recipe. OH loves rice pudding and I keep buying stupid little pots of the stuff.

glasgowlass Thu 14-Jul-16 16:05:09

Oh can I request recipe too? Slow cooker rice pudding sounds amazing!

diddl Thu 14-Jul-16 16:06:52

I don't think that it has to be served as pudding just because it's called pudding.

Black pudding, yorkshire pudding, steak & kidney pudding!
