How on earth do I get him to go? He has a blister on his toe, that's bad, but he is refusing to go because it hurts too much. Help?

branofthemist Tue 12-Jul-16 18:10:24

How old is he?

Did he go today? Or is he worrying about tomorrow? Probably be all forgotten tomorrow morning. Don't make a big deal of it tonight and see how things are. Storm in a teacup more than likely

Blister plaster?

yesterday753 Tue 12-Jul-16 18:11:45

He's 12!! We have tried but it's still "oh my god mum no that really hurt when I put my shoe on" confused

GreatFuckability Tue 12-Jul-16 18:12:20

tell him to get a grip, stick a plaster on it, and take him to school!

Do you have a lovely comfy sandal that you could lend him? That'll show him you mean business..

APlaceOnTheCouch Tue 12-Jul-16 18:13:32

Put him in sandals (or whatever shoe style doesn't rub) and give him a note to explain the footwear choice.

timeforabrewnow Tue 12-Jul-16 18:14:29

Why does he have a blister? do his shoes fit?

MackerelOfFact Tue 12-Jul-16 18:15:18

Pop the blister and put a plaster over it, it'll feel fine then. Or tell him he has to go in flip-flops!

branofthemist Tue 12-Jul-16 18:15:27

Give him a pair of sandals and tell him to get a grip.

IAmAPaleontologist Tue 12-Jul-16 18:17:56

I suppose you could view it as a positive that he is putting lots of effort and acting ability into trying it on grin

Ds1 who is 9 recently had a lovely infected nail bed with a huge blistery fluid collection at the end of his toe which spread to cellulitis all up his shin. It was magnificent. He missed half an hour ish of school when I took him to the nurse to have it lanced and dressed but the rest of the time was in school with a pair of old trainers on that had a hole in the end so they didn't put pressure on his toe.

A blister?confused are you sure there's not some other issue making him not want to go to school, this sounds like an excuse.

grin what like wanting to play on his PS4 all day?

Sandals is a great idea, no way would he want to be seen dead in socks and sandals.

ThomasRichard Tue 12-Jul-16 18:59:30

grin insist on socks and sandals if it's too bad for a plaster.

Quite simple... "You are going to school, its a blister! Get dressed and ready darling (and sort yourself out!)". This is a non issue. Who has time off for a blister?! Should we all take leave for a paper cut? Parent the child.

yesterday753 Wed 13-Jul-16 01:26:01

parent the child

I hate it when people go too far. Nothin suggests I don't parent him. Sigh hmm

A hundred years ago, boys not much older than him fought in wars. Tell him about them.

Crikey you're a mean bunch.

Blisters can be incredibly painful so at the very least he needs a Compeed or similar plaster on it. Clearly he also needs new shoes, or better socks.

Is it definitely a blister? As a child I once had an infected cuticle on a toe. It was very painful and I spent the day shuffling around and eventually got sent to the Gp to have the pus drained.

FInally when calibrating your sympathy levels remember that kids at school are incredibly active. It's not like they can "take it easy" or "keep the weight off it" like an office worker.

Well clearly if a blister is causing a need for a post on mn....and not a plaster and an "off you go" then you're not. Its a blister!! My nephew goes to school every day with a severe illness, his mum is an angel who pushes for a normal life for her son. A blister!! Get a grip.

yesterday753 Wed 13-Jul-16 01:45:06

Lighten up. Everyone is so bloody serious.

yesterday753 Wed 13-Jul-16 01:46:06

I also don't really know what your nephew has to do with it confused

mathanxiety Wed 13-Jul-16 02:06:09

Is it a blister or an abscess?
