AIBU?

AIBU to wear yellow to a wedding?

I'm going to a wedding this week and wanted to wear a new yellow dress to it (with a shawl, nude clutch and shoes etc, pearls).

I was looking for accessories ideas and went down the internet rabbit hole and ended up on a thread where some people were saying you shouldn't wear red to a wedding as you'll stand out in all the wedding photos.

Well, surely yellow would stand out too. It hadn't really occurred to me as yellow is such a happy, sunshiney, summery colour that I thought it would suit. All views most welcome!

I wouldn't wear a bright yellow, but maybe a softer pastel yellow? That would look lovely.

YANBU.

I believe showing up in a large white dress with a veil is frowned upon, but other than that, fill your boots and have a nice day, OP.

I have never heard that you shouldn't wear a colour (apart from all black or all white) to a wedding!

The only thing i try and check is what colour the bridesmaids are wearing so I don't turn up in the same colour and look like psycho-bridesmaid-wannabee lady.

Good lord, you can wear what colour you want unless it is white!

I love these bright colours at weddings.

Oops, I've worn red to a wedding before! YANBU, but maybe I'm not the best judge!

Oh and someone wore an off white dress to my wedding. I wasn't upset, it was pretty clear that she wasn't the bride!

Thank you! It's a poppy yellow... oh dear, maybe it's too bright.

Bridesmaids are wearing purple and pink :)

Won't the shawl tone it down? It's the summer, people will wear bright colours, no big deal surely?

Bright is better!! Why would bright be bad??

Poppy yellow sounds gorgeous.

I wore bright yellow to the last wedding I went to. Can't see the problem at all. It's a celebration - why shouldn't you wear bright colours!

Sun colours to a wedding is the rule!

Go for it. One of the reasons weddings look good is because everyone's dressed in pretty colours for a change.

Ah phew, thank you! It's my new favourite dress and even though it's probably going to rain on the day, it just feels so summery :)

Unless it's black or white then go for it.

I think it's fine to wear yellow (or red) to a wedding. My rules for myself are that I wouldn't anything revealing, wouldn't wear cream / white and also try to steer clear of whatever colour the bridesmaids are. Loads of people do wear revealing stuff white, cream and match the bridesmaids and nobody cares or even really notices much anyway. I just don't do it personally. The revealing stuff is the worst IMHO and maybe a white maxi would get the odd raised eyebrow.

Exactly, white is obviously out and personally I think black is too sombre for weddings, anything else is fine though!

I was 19 when my brother got married and shortly before dyed my hair BRIGHT red. The eye is immediately drawn to it in the pics. SIL still hasn't forgiven me, it's been 16 years Grin

why would it be too bright?

I've just been to a wedding. I wore electric blue. It was very very bright!

I wore a really bright red dress with a massive red hat to a wedding once (where i knew no one). I did really stand out. Everyone was wearing pastel and washed out colours and no hats (NO HATS! ffs. What's the point of a wedding without hats?!) the bride was in cream. In the pics after it looked like dh had hired a certain type of lady to accompany him Grin .

I'd wear yellow. Bright, white or very dark colours suit my colouring and i wouldn't wear white or dark, so bright it is.

Yellow is fine, though my friend wore a pale pastel yellow and it liked white in all the photos. White is a no/no x

Oh, dear, at this rate with all the rules, people will all wear one authorised colour for a wedding.
Wear what you like.

Yellow sounds lovely - wear it!

I once read on MN that it was bad luck for the B&G if a guest wore green. I had no idea. I went to a wedding about 20 years ago in a sage green outfit - I am thankful to say the couple are still happily married!
