I think Mattie is a very cute shortening of Matilda.

I love it. My dd has a friend with that name and she's lovely so it has very good connotations for me!

All the Matildas I know are shortened to Tilly.

Mattie is way cuter!

I don't like it, it sounds too masculine, I prefer Tilda.

It's actually an old-fashioned abbreviation. I think one of the girls in The Crown of Success by A.L.O.E. (A Lady Of England) was called Matty.

I absolutely love it. I don't think it needs a longer full name either.

Matilda is a great name - shortened to tilly or mally. I don't like mattie as it's a surname.

I love the name Matilda, I like Tilly and Tilda, as NNs.

I grew up in a disadvantaged part of Liverpool, with a lot of big, poor families. Everyone of them (I was an only child), seemed to have a very scruffy child called Mattie, short for Mathew. He always did have matty, tatty hair. Paddy always seemed to be further up the pecking order.

So it's got childhood connotations, for me.
