AIBU?

To wonder about DN's criminal activity?

My niece seems to be selling a LOT of Ted Baker items on Facebook selling pages, all new with tags. She's a shop manager so not sure how she's coming about these items.

I asked her mum and she has no idea, and says her DD just keeps saying "it's not important, the money is".

What do you think is going on?

I think it's obvious what's going on, isn't it?Hmm

Have no idea but why don't you ask her where she gets things from. Posting on here will not get you an answer will it?

Who knows, but I'd keep out of it.

Well I'm worried! She's only 18.

Well she is either buying these items using a staff discount and selling them on - probably not in line with her employment t&c but legal, she is buying counterfeit items and selling them on - illegal, or she is stealing from her employer.
Its not going to end well.

Berth she's not shop manager a shop that sells these items, sorry, I should've made that clearer

Yeah I'd assume she is buying them with staff discount. Not illegal, but as a pp says, would get her fired. However if she thinks she'll get another job without a reference from them, then it probably is worth it.

my say the discount was £25%, and the item was 20. That's only a discount of £5. Surely no one will buy with such a small reduction? People on Facebook want bargains

I'm not sure I understand?

You asked her mum instead of asking your niece?

Report
youneedabiscuit · 09/07/2016 12:18

Worra it came up in topic of conversation with her Mum, of whom looked incredibly worried about it and is quite timid so won't question her DD.

In all fairness, DN won't be bringing trouble to her Mum's door as she lives on her own, but a Mother still worries

Jesus, "criminal activity"? Stop jumping to conclusions and keep out of it!

She's 18 and is a shop manager? Good grief!

Right but after that conversation with her Mum, why did you not ask your niece then?

Surely she can give you a clearer answer than anyone on this thread?

Just ask your niece if you want to know.
Alternatively mind your own business.

What does "she's not shop manager a shop that sells these items, sorry, I should've made that clearer"

That post makes nothing clearer. And they'll be knock offs, i would stay out of it.

18 and a shop manager. I highly doubt it and if she is, and you're not dreaming up crack pot stories It's very very unfair on say Mary who's still on shop floor having worked there 30 years. No wonder so much resentment goes on in the work place.

Report
youneedabiscuit · 09/07/2016 12:27

live why is it unfair to said Mary if DN has the appropriate skills to bring to the table?

So you're not close enough to ask her, despite being bothered enough to ask internet randoms, and to have already decided that it's 'criminal activity' anyway.

And her mum is too timid to ask her, despite claiming to be incredibly worried?

You do know this is MumsNet and not PsychicNet, don't you?

Unless you want an entire thread of idle speculation about your niece?

depending on the shop theres a bigger discount than that. A friend of mine had a 60% discount in the shop she worked in

I was a shop supervisor at 17. I managed people twice my age. I was good at my job, I would be there before opening and way after closing. I ran that place and did all the admin etc. Age doesn't mean more skills.
