Just a simple and maybe even a silly question - but why do people swear on Mumsnet? It just often makes peoples comments come across as so aggressive.....the swearing could so easily be avoided...and the comments come across as more considerd. I am interested to read what others think.....Thanks loads folks....XXX

There are no rules against swearing.

I really dislike it when people put kisses at the end of their posts...

WibbleWobbleJellyHead Wed 29-Jun-16 16:35:39

Because it's fucking funny. And I'm a sweary cunt in RL too.

TeaBelle Wed 29-Jun-16 16:35:43

Personally I think it's the same as swearing in every day life. Used in a considered way it can emphasise a particular point well. Used willy nilly it looses power.

GrimmauldPlace Wed 29-Jun-16 16:35:59

I fucking love swearing

Sirzy Wed 29-Jun-16 16:36:40

Because they want To? Because it's a forum for adults?

I am not sweary by nature but I am not going to get offended by the odd swear word either on here or in real life!

Try netmums maybe?

EdmundCleverClogs Wed 29-Jun-16 16:37:09

Swearing is fucking amazing. Thanks xxx

TeaBelle Wed 29-Jun-16 16:38:04

I don't get why (on netmums) starring out words is any better. Everyone knows exactly what it 'should' say.

SweetChickadee Wed 29-Jun-16 16:39:21

ooh I love a good swear - it's great we are allowed to on MN

PurpleRainDiamondsandPearls Wed 29-Jun-16 16:41:03

I know, it's bloody disgraceful. Adults swearing?! Bleh. Wash your mouth out, people!

x2boys Wed 29-Jun-16 16:41:53

I dont think people should swear just for the sake of it but i do like a well placed " oh do fuck off dear " when somebodys being goady net mums can be ludicrous in that it doesnt allow swearing at all but people can be really nasty and bitchy over there and often dont get called on it.

MsKite Wed 29-Jun-16 16:42:20

It's so we can have yet another one of these threads where everyone says cunt a lot wink

Tworingsandamicrowave Wed 29-Jun-16 16:42:25

There's a Netmums? Fuck me! I don't need another website to spend all my time on! 😆

FuckingVipers Wed 29-Jun-16 16:42:37

I spend most of my time singing nursery rhymes with a big smile on my face. If I want to swear on MN then I cunting bollocking will.

NavyAndWhite Wed 29-Jun-16 16:43:06

In context it's quite necessary.

TheNaze73 Wed 29-Jun-16 16:43:26

I'm more offended by the xxx than the swearing

shrunkenhead Wed 29-Jun-16 16:44:02

I don't like it, personally. But mumsnetters seem to think that by swearing they have one over on net mums and are being all big and clever. I view it as I think most people do in the real world. Effective when used wisely, yet speaks volumes when someone can't string a sentence together without every other word being an expletive.
Of course there are also the upper class ones who think it's funny to do/say what they want.

usual Wed 29-Jun-16 16:44:41

Oh what an original thread, Are you bored, OP?

peppercold Wed 29-Jun-16 16:45:11

Because it's fucking big and fucking clever.

shrunkenhead Wed 29-Jun-16 16:46:06

It always surprises me that they happily use the c and t word. Surely any feminist would know that to use the female genitalia as a term of abuse just isn't on.....

2nds Wed 29-Jun-16 16:46:19

I think it's OK if it's in context. Shit fuck bollocks.

Chippednailvarnishing Wed 29-Jun-16 16:47:15

I can't fucking stand spelling mistakes and people who put ... in the middle of every fucking sentence. It's just shit.
