AIBU?

To think playmobil is appropriate for 9 year old bday

Ds asked for some playmobil for his 9th birthday and my sister was asking what to buy him so I told her a set that her wants. My sister said surely it's a bit babyish but if it's what he wants she will get. Maybe it is a bit babyish but he plays on the play station and likes Lego so what does it matter?

If he knows he enjoys it then that's all that matters. It is aimed at younger children but so what?

If he likes playing with it that's all that matters.

I think my three were still playing with Playmobil every now & then at that age.

My 9 year old has been playing with it today because Minded children were playing with it before school..However under normal circumstances he doesn't play with toys in the way he did..So I don't tend to buy this kind of toys.. Do you think your DS will play with the playmobil..My Ds see's stuff he says he wants but I know he wouldn't play with it.

Is that all she said?

Presumably you replied with something like, "Nah not really. He loves it"?

Unless there was more to the conversation, I'm not sure why you're asking? Kids like different things at different ages, just like adults do.

It doesn't matter. Like she said.

Whats your beef?

I would like some Sylvanian toys for my next birthday and I will be 59! Grin

Get it - or you'll end up on a thread on Mumsnet in 30 years time about 'Slights and grievances from childhood'.

Grin

Would rather a kid had toys that encouraged them to entertain themselves and use their imagination than many other things.

Some of it is very appropriate for a 9yr old. As long as she knows to get the 8+ sort of stuff rather than 3+

My 9 and 11 year old still play with theirs. It's lovely.

You can buy Call of Duty megablocks so I don't see why a 9yo can't have playmobil?

Nothing wrong with a 9 year old who wants Playmobile, some children are in too much of a hurry to grow up sometimes. Then you get to be an adult and want to be a child again!

Playmobil isn't for younger children it's for all ages like Lego.

I would MUCH rather my 9 or 10 year old still plays with proper toys rather than electronic stuff.

I'm slightly sad my 9 year old dd seems to be outgrowing Sylvanians but she does still want it in her room. She's a bit of a hoarder and refuses to let go of stuff. Although sometimes she takes out toys she hasn't played with for ages which is lovely.

Ignore your sister OP, buy them toys for as long as you can!

I can't bear people who like to rain on a child's parade by referring to their likes as 'babyish'. FWIW DD at 6 hardly plays with her Playmobil at all, which simply tells me that she doesn't really like it!

A present that will be appreciated is a good present. The end.

Ours used to make Play mobile videos at this age, all the little characters had parts. Used to take them hours!! I remember challenging them to recreate the 2012 Olympic games opening ceremony.....Blissfull peace for days Grin

I actually thought play mobile was for young kids until my then 5 year old got really into it.

She is 7 now and that was her main christmas present, I suspect it will be for a good few years as she loves imaginary play.

Get it!

My 9 year old still plays with hrs, so does my 12 year old, they have just got some new Sylvanian stuff too. It's lovely when they still want to play with these things.

I used to play with my Playmobil Victorian city (yes, I had THAT much) until I was slightly older around 15 than 9.

So go for it.

I didn't encounter playmobil until I was 10. I spent about 3 happy years and a massive pile of pocket money. And parents sneering i was too old did get to me, I might not be traumatised, but I remember that clearly.

I loved playing with Playmobile when DC were young. The castle defeated us adult, though, it was way too hard to construct Grin

Which set does he want? I've kept all ours plus duplicated for my grandbabies should we be lucky enough.
