Is this animal cruelty?

My neighbours have 2 dogs and they work full time, the dogs are in the house all day (i hear them constantly barking running around mad) the only time i see them getting any kind of fresh air is 10 mins before they leave for work (they get ushered back in as soon as they have done their business as its 7am and they bark like mad) and 10 mins after they come back from work (around 5/6pm) the dogs do their business outside on the grass where kids play (dd played their once but came back with poop all over her leg) i've already reported this to the council and they are monitoring the area. I think its cruel to keep animals locked up all day and they need fresh air and exercise. Wwyd?

It's awful

Sadly I think as long as they are fed and sheltered it's not classed as Ill treatment. Unless things have changed. I reported a similar thing years ago.

Its been like that for around 2 years now? They weren't like this with their old dog (german shepherd) i feel sorry for the poor things

Yes it's cruel. Dogs aren't supposed to be left for more than a couple of hours or they get distressed.

Maybe you could call the Dogs Trust for advice?

It's cruelty but unfortunately quite common ime.

Adrenaline, I agree, I think it's common, too.
Our old rescue Collie cross loves his twice daily walks to the local park, and running off his lead.
But considering that around a quarter of households have a dog, we don't really see many out for a walk, just the same old faithfuls every time.

So sad :( I have a neighbour like this. They have a huge Akita and I only ever see it outside for a few minutes at a time every now and then.

That's no life for a dog.

It is really sad but quite common unfortunately, I would understand if they had a big yard to keep them but this is just unacceptable.

No there garden is only 12ft by about 10ft, there house is the same layout as mine and it isn't very big imo. I don't see many dogs out for walks either and a lot of people have them around here. I don't see the point in having a pet if your not going to be in to look after them or give them what they need.

Yes its cruel and selfish. There is very little point in having dogs if that is the case. I have two and waited nearly 10 years of working from home until I was absolutely sure I was never going to be working out the house again. Dogs not only needs a decent amount of exercise each day but they also thrive on company. It really upsets me to read things like this.

Too many people treat dogs like toys, to play with when they choose & leave them alone for hours on end when they can't be bothered. So sad.

Its horrible hearing them running around all day with no company. I want to get dd a rabbit but not until we get a bigger garden/house
