AIBU?

Not to change the spare bed sheets for a new guest

Would never dream of doing this normally. Very clean MIL coming for 1 night. The week after DP's friend is staying for 1 night, by the time he gets to bed he'll be pretty drunk if usual behaviour is repeated. It fills me with horror not to have a spotless bed/bedroom for guests but really not sure I can be bothered this time. WIBU not to change them as a one off?

Tell one of them to bring a sleeping bag? I'd hate to find someone else's pubic hair in my bed.
Boak.

DP's mum, DP's friend. DP changes the bed.

I would say that's fine.

I'm sure the drunk bloke won't give a stuff. None of the men in my family would care.

DH's issue surely?

But i'm not sure that I buy that it fills you with horror to not do change them if you can so easily just not do it this time for whatever reason. Its notp a massive effort and there will be a week between guests.

I probably wouldn't change for him. In fact I'd think, "Would he change the sheets for me in similar circumstances?" If he wouldn't, then I wouldn't, either.

Yuck. Arf at "very clean" MIL! Stop inviting people you can't be arsed to treat properly.

camelfinger · 27/06/2016 20:26

See what DH thinks, he could always change them.

I would normally say that you should change the sheets for every guest. It's a bit mingling not to, really.

BUT, if he's likely going to be pissed and won't notice anyway, them maybe just air the bed out and spray with Fabreeze between guests.

That way round I'd be fine. The other way...not a hope.

(My similarly clean ILs came for 2 nights, last month. My DN (10) is coming for a week, next month. The bedding isn't being changed in between.)

What you need is ditch the quilt.
Cover over mattress. Then a cover and a mink faux fur throw. Takes seconds to change the beds now.

Even though I've been a sahm, and happy to do all hw, I draw the line at 1. Changing beds for their guests and 2. Washing all the bibs from his footie team.
It's your dhs problem, not yours.

Eww that is rank. Your Inlaws could have shagged and now you expect your niece to sleep in the unchanged bed.

Report
HoneyDragon · 27/06/2016 20:31

Nope. You'll not like yourself unless you clean them.

Floggingmolly · 27/06/2016 20:31

That's gross on a grand scale, emwithme. Seriously revolting.

Wouldn't your MIL strip the bed before she leaves anyway?

Report
nanetterose · 27/06/2016 20:36

When your MIL leaves. Turn all the bedding inside out. Your friend won't notice. :)
And before anyone says you might as well change them. No, l don't agree- it is less of a faff! Grin

YABU - how hard is it to just change a sheet Confused

Report
3rdrockfromthesun · 27/06/2016 20:37

You change the sheet on the bed and then put a flat sheet under the duvet. That way you do not have to change the duvet as well. However I would not change the sheets - just pull the duvet back on itself and air the bed Wink. Have done that plenty of times especially when mil only stays one night and then fil (and girlfriend) come and stay only one night (imagine my delight when asking fil's DP how she slept

MIL coming on her own so shagging unlikely Grin.

Wouldn't dream of doing it the other way round.

Agree I will hate myself if I don't. But very tempted to go with the verdict that it's DP's problem. I am doing all the housework right now as he is building us a house from scratch (well, doing all the admin, anyway) so the deal was I keep the household running. But an exception should be made here methinks.
