About not getting dressed?

Ok a bit of a strange one.

Growing up my dad was very depressed and I suspect my mum was quite depressed too. Mum didn't work and at weekends, and all the time once we'd left school, she'd live in her dressing down. She was always clean and she washed every day, but if she wasn't going out until 5oclock then she'd only wash and dress before just before she needed to go out. She was never just ready.

I don't know if it's rubbed off on me but I've realised I'm a bit the same.

Dh gets up and showers straight away and gets dressed. Whereas if I know I'm not going out until 2oclock, and say I need to do some cleaning first, I'd do the cleaning in my pyjamas or maybe chuck on some leggings and tshirt clothes and then get properly ready before going out. Part of my logic to this is that I don't want to get mucky and want my make up to be fresh if let's say I was going out for lunch.

Anyway, dh gets really irritated by this and keeps telling me to go and have a shower and get dressed.

I'm at work and doing the school run during the week anyway so I'm showered and dressed then (I'm not doing school run in my pjs!). So this issue is at weekends.

Also, if I knew I wasn't going out at all on a lazy Sunday then I'd happily stay in pjs until whatever time.

I'm not dirty or smelly and I shower every day at some point. I just wondered if I'm very odd in this. I'm not not as dressing gown lady, if we get visitors I get dressed so this is purely when pottering around at home.

I'm with you. Still not properly dressed today, but I'll have a shower before I go to bed!

I'm exactly the same, and so is everyone in my family. Neither of my exs ever said they found it strange, in fact the last one used to put on pyjamas/scruffs the minute he got through the door and thought it was weird that I didn't.

Still in pjs here! Had a shower and put clean ones on. I am refusing to leave the house until I have to go to work, so no need for clothes :-)

I'm 100% the same.

Your husband sounds a bit controlling to be honest. I mean you are a grown up, you decide what time you get washed and dressed.

I am the same as you OP, and my DP always showers first thing, even before his first cup of tea. He doesn't nag me to get dressed though, that would really annoy me.

My DP also stays in his day clothes until he goes to bed, whereas I tend to change into tracky bums when I am home in the evenings. I couldn't sit around on the sofa watching TV in my jeans like he does!

When I had a job outside the home I was very like this, now that I work from home I find my wardrobe isn't so polarised iyswim - I don't really have smart 'office' clothes, so I tend to get dressed quite early in the day. Which is a roundabout way of saying I think it's totally fine to get 'dressed' later on in the day. But as I live in casual clothes all the time now, I get dressed earlier.

Honestly, I'm posting total guff tonight. I'm bored so mn-ing but trying to stay away from EU ref threads, hence doing a lot of fence sitting. Sorry op! Grin

YANBU. I do the same on a Saturday as am doing the cleaning. I see no point in having a shower only to work up a sweat and then have to have another one. Love the feeling of getting myself clean once I know the house is spotless.

I am like this. I love my dressing gown. My dh asks why I'm not dressed. Gets on my nerves.

Sod your DH.

I wear a suit all week so when I'm not going out I'll stay as long as I can in my PJs. Not even sorry.

DD is the same! And neither of us do it because of depression. Smile

I'm the same OP. I have two kids to run about after so I don't want to end up a big ruffled/sweaty mess after wrestling them into clothes etc so I get dressed just before I go out. I also get changed into my PJs the minute I get home, so does DH though.
As long as it's not holding your DH up when it comes to going out I don't really see what it's got to do with him.

I always get up and dressed straight after breakfast, although it might be an hour later at the weekend.
I suspect a large part of it is that I can't bear ever wearing pyjamas (at night) so it's less comfy lounging around?

Oh well it sounds like I'm not alone.

I know what you mean lonnyvonny you're at work even though you're still in your home.

Dh does get on my nerves and I make no apologies telling him I'll do as I please, but it caused a little doubt in my mind. Dh feels a shower and dressed gets him motivated for the day. He's not usually controlling but he does get on my wick about this with his little hints, like asking if he should leave the shower on for me.

I'm with you on this one. It's somehow a waste to be clean and dressed just to slob about or do housework! Still not dressed today Smile

I'm the same as your dh (sorry!) but neither is right or wrong.
Luckily my dh is the same as me so it's a none issue in our house.
I do however put my pjs on as soon as the kids have gone to bed.

If I'm not heading back out, I'm straight into pyjamas or 'lounge wear' when I get home from anywhere too!

I live in my pj's. Hate wearing clothes in the house.

Report
MissMogwi · 26/06/2016 21:56

I slip in to my 'leisure wear' dressing gown as soon as I can, usually after dinner.

At weekends I chuck on some pj bottoms and a top while I do my cleaning etc. If I'm not going out anywhere I'll stay as I am.

My DP is the same really. But he wouldn't moan at me if he wasn't, tell your DP to sod off!

Sorry, but I'm a bit with your DH on this one. I do think that not bothering to even attempt to dress during the day is a depressive mindset, even if you think it isn't.
Getting dressed signals the start of a new day, as opposed to just melding day and night into one by staying in pyjamas.

CantChoose · 26/06/2016 22:13

I don't keep pj's on all day but I only put 'loungewear' on, then proper clothes just before going out, also don't do makeup or anything until just before so it's fresh. So I guess I'm in the middle.
I can't stand sitting around in my dressing gown. I have a lightweight one and a fluffy one but I'm always too hot or too cold in them...

There are always a lot of pj lovers on MN.
I'm with your dh though - it irrationally irritates me when my dd roams about in her dressing gown during the day.
Dont get me wrong - I dress very casually when not in work clothes, but I am in clothes.

I get dressed in the morning. It brings my mood down if I stay in pajamas.

Report
TrappedNerve · 26/06/2016 22:41

As soon as I'm in it's bra off first then jewellery and into lounge pants and vest or pyjamas.
I find it hard to do my cleaning when properly dressed with make up etc on.
Lots of people find it strange but to me it's so normal. Also would never wear shoes in house.

Report
FiveShelties · 26/06/2016 22:54

I don't feel 'right' in PJs during the day - I dress very casually, usually jeans/tee shirt but am always dressed. It would feel strange to me, having a shower and then putting PJs on in the morning.
