PIL visit today

It is 4.30 am. I have some crappy viral lurgy. My nose is blocked and my throat is on fire. All I want to do is dribble like my teething dc.

I'm waiting for paracetamol to kick in. Dp has moved the strep Strepsils

Tomorrow my in laws are coming for lunch. I was planning on doing slow roast beef brisket. It needs to be turned on at 6.30 ish at the latest. I meant to do the prep yesterday but forgot and went to bed early feeling crappy.

Wibu to leave my vegetarian dp to it with instructions via text? Dp will be looking after viral source aka dc tomorrow and I do nearly 100% of the cooking so dp is not familiar with cooking meat. But it's a slow cooker right. How hard can it be?

Failing that any top tips for good recipes? I've never cooked it before and was just going to bung it in with herbs carrots celery and stock and cook for 7 hours. PIL are coming at 1 pm.

Ugh I feel suite. This is blatantly a moaning aibu

You are ill. Go back to sleep and let him sort it.

They are his parents. He can either sort out the food or take them out to the pub. Go back to bed.

No, don't ask your DP to do it, that's unfair if he's a vegetarian who doesn't cook much.
Let him take them all out for lunch instead while you sleep. Much better option!

Hoping you've text DP that you're ill and can't do lunch. Agree with letting him deal with it, either by cooking or lunch out, leave it to him.

If you have to do it, literally just put the beef in the slow cooker, add salt and pepper, and switch on. Doesn't need other prep. Get DP to do veg. We have done this many times and it's absolutely fine.

Cancel. It's obviously infectious and you arent up to having guests.

I would cancel. They won't want your lurgy anyway!

I would cancel too. You've not said how if your PiLs have any health conditions, but either way what you have sounds awful and no one would thank you for passing this on.

Get DP to ring them and explain that their visit needs to be postponed and also suggest a couple of alternative dates.

I feel a million times better now. Pausing the name of whoever invented paracetamol. It may have taken she's to kick in but at least I'm no longer at risk of developing teething rash.

Offered PIL chance to rearrange but they are desperate to see grandchild.

At least I know now why dd has been waking and crying every night for the past week. And I feel a whole lot less guilty about giving her calpol to get her back to sleep!

Thank you for lovely messages overnight. It was nice to read when I felt so crap!

Great news, hoping lunch has gone well and you're feeling better. I had a nasty 12hr bug last summer and the relief of feeling better was amazing.

Hope your lunch has gone well, but do try to get plenty of rest. Let your DP take the strain.

Lol loving the idea of me as a saint. After dinner I rudely fell asleep on the sofa. Then after PIL had gone I watched dd (prevented concussion as she is at the pulling self up and falling flat without warning stage) whilst dp did all the clearing away.

And dinner was fabulous even if I say so myself. Home made custard and everything.

Now bath time and whilst I do it dp will clear away the afternoon's toys so we can have some adult time together (watch Netflix no chill)
