AIBU?

To think people are overeating?

So I've heen to Cambodia they had a truly horrible time under Pol Pot but they have no self pity & are slowly rebuilding there lives. We've survived recessions, two world wars, Vietnam survived. There are such horrible things going on in the world & yet yesterday a lot of people were acting completely devastated. One woman was horrible with me, she was really upset. It isn't my fault.
Is this truly the end for us? Or are people overreacting?

Because a lot of people are devastated. This will have a Dramatic and negative impact on so many lives.
Does that give people the right to bully and abuse others....of course not but they will anyway.

People are over eating yes! Grin

But to answer your OP, I think the result will affect many people both negatively and positively so it's only normal and right that they feel a great deal of anxiety over what lies ahead. This has never happened before in the history of the EU (apart from Greenland I believe), so emotions for the coming weeks will be running high.

I think over eating might help calm things down actually. Everyone should break out the chocolate. Grin

Personally yes I am an overeater. Really trying to cut down though before I no longer fit into my favourite jeans. I just love cheesecake!

I clicked on this thinking 'ace, at least THIS one isn't about Brexit'. Foiled.

Well I hope it's not going to get as bad as Cambodia under Pol Pot. Hopefully it won't lead to about a third of the country being executed in camps, no. So yay for us! Why bother making a fuss! Sure, our economy will probably go down the pan, the NHS will probably be torn apart, benefits will be slashed, the poor will suffer the most, xenophobia and isolationism are on the rise and we have massively boosted a far right surge across Europe and destabilised the EU, which has facilitated peace in Europe for the last 60 years, but it's not actually the worst thing that has ever happened, so let's just not give a fuck. Ffs.

I have been dieting but my shock and horror at the awful result yesterday did lead me to make a cake and eat the raw batter out of the bowl so I would agree that in addition to the rest of the disaster Brexit had wrought upon us, overeating really is another consequence.

Yes, OP, I am glad that I don't live in a violent dictatorship. I am a counter of blessings. But all of our futures were just made worse and all of our lives will be affected, so will the lives of our children who will look back on this referendum in absolute bewilderment that such a stupid and disastrous event was ever allowed to happen. Sure, Boris Johnson is preferable to Pol Pot. It doesn't mean he is a good leader for this country.

"Guys, it's been a day, why haven't you got over it? Sure everything is hugely fucked up, but we have sovereignty! (You know, in the hands of an even smaller number of rich people with fuck-all accountability to anyone). So let's just forget it now ok? You're harshing my buzz and BEING MEAN!" Hmm

InShockReally · 25/06/2016 08:59

... And as way of "everything's gonna be ok" reassurances go, "at least we're not like Cambodia yet" is NOT a good reassurance!

YANBU! I've been working pretty much solidly for the last 48 hours on the referendum and OMG I've eaten soooo much junk food! I swear my trousers are tighter.

But on the other thing, YABU. You'd only think people were overreacting if you didn't really understand the consequences. And I'm sure you do, right OP?

Haha I definitely over ate yesterday (EU citizen), the yummy takeaway pizza I had last night took the edge off my nerves.

I thought this was going to be a thread about lack of willpower for eating healthy, reasonable portions. I was looking for tips to stop me eating so much cheese!

You don't need to have a tragic past to be shocked and devastated. If your system is crashing down you are entitled to feel like that.

Sorry about Cambodia but I think YABU
